TF 99 Love and Compasseco Love
« on: March 18, 2010, 03:36:27 AM »
I bought Jaymo's TF 99 from him.  Almost as soon as I got it I broke it.  It was my own fault as I kinda jammed up the anti-beartrap thingee.  THEN I made it worse by trying to take it apart to fix it.  Long story short I got the trigger all messed up and wasn't sure what to do to fix it.

I emailed Mike M. about fixing it and he said he would, so I called Compasseco to order the parts I thought I needed.  They told me to send them the gun and they would fix it for me for $25.  Not only did they fix it, but they checked it out and put in a new seal!

This morning I got it back.  Now it IS smokey as all get out with the new seal, but this thing is just wonderful to shoot!  Jaymo did some tuning on it before I got it and I've got to say it is just a pleasure to shoot it.  In about 5 mins I had a scope back on it and sighted it in.  I was grouping nicely at 10 yards.  After that I started plinking tin cans at nearly 40 yards with ease!

I'm really loving this thing! I've never owned an underlever gun before.  It takes some time to get used to cocking it and loading it, but it is just fantastic.

They are decent, solid guns. Jeremy would know how to make them a little better!

Check the crown, if he didn't get around to that, a polish job will pay dividends. Other'n that the biggest challenge was keeping the stock screws tight. The trigger can only be so good, but i had smoothed mine out pretty well and it was predictable- that's half the battle.

I still wouldn't rule out the MM magic but it was very cool of Compasseco to back you up. Enjoy. The wood was pretty nice for a Chicom cheapie! That gun should have some sling swivels. I put the Centerpoint 16x on her and it was a hefty load, but really accurate, and pretty hot as I recall. I think I was shooting well into the 900s.

A sling would be a good idea! I'm pretty sure it hits as hard as my TF 89.  Just gotta say that the Techforce guns are really good for the price.  They just need some TLC to make them great shooting guns.

Instead of my Titan, I should have spent the few dollars more on a .177 TF 89.  My TF 89 is that much better as it cocks easier and the Contenders seem to have better quality control.  Now I might consider a TF 99 underlever .177 gun instead of a TF 89.  I wouldn't mind a .177 magnum gun though.  (Honestly, I don't know why I think I "need" one, but after hanging around you guys everything is a "need" now) :D

I'm not sure why folks think they are that heavy.  Since I'm used to carrying my RWS 350, this thing doesn't seem near as heavy nor as hard to shoot.

A couple of the local air gun guys swear by their underlever CFX guns.  If they are as nice as this I can see why.

It seems to be very well balanced for it's weight. It's a lot of fun to shoot. I didn't have to smooth up the cocking stroke any because it was smooth and light from the factory.
You could drill the stock for the rear stud, and get a front stud that clamps to the barrel. Other than that, I don't know of any way to attach a sling. I still need to install swivels on my B30.
I still need to finish my B50 tune. The tube needs to be lightly polished where the hammer rides. Thinking about giving the tube a good hot blue inside and out. A good saltpeter/lye/distilled water hot-blacking will give surface hardness and give it a nice slick surface. Or I may just Oxpho-Blue the inside of the tube. It also gives it a nice hard, slick oxide layer.
I really need to get my mill and shaper back together so I can make a left handed riser breech for the 50. That would be useful with the high comb it has on the butttt stock.
That, and it really needs a shroud. That skinny barrel just plain looks funny.

the 99 is an underlever so how would you clamp anything to the barrel? and there is no way to put on a shroud either.

Well I've been shooting it now a couple of weeks and I love it even more.  It is accurate way on out there!  It is going to be added to my hunting guns for prairie dogs in Kansas.  Just so easy to shoot and not nearly as hold sensitive as some of my other guns.  I've got to order some pellets for it.  it just LOVES RWS pellets!  I'm shooting up the rest of my RWS Hollowpoints right now.

I've got to say for the money, I'm the most satisfied with this gun over the others.  Thanks Jaymo!

have to say i wasnt to impressed with the tf99. mine broke after less than 300 shots. the tf 89 on the other hand is working well for me. just not to accurate even with all the doo dads and trinkets. hard hitter though.

The TF 89 needs a lot of TLC to start, but afterwards it hits hard and has been accurate for me out of the box.  My 89 was my only sucessful lube tune.  The big thing is keeping the scope from moving and the bolts from working loose.

Did you return the 99?
