Marauder regulator installed/tested,
« on: March 19, 2010, 03:46:58 PM »
Please pardon the cut & paste, typing is hard for me.
We all know extreme fps spread matters no matter your shooting discipline. I rather enjoy Field Target but also enjoy some 100+ yard shooting with my airguns. I just got together a 12fpe QBxx w/reg and it works pretty darn well for me. I happen to have a .22 Marauder in the house to tinker with and saw a post by Vincent on another forum regarding regulators he is importing so I sent him an email just to inquire as to price availability etc. , I included my phone number as I often do just as a courtesy (I feel that helps in that a business person can verify you are not some bot or something). I did not say “I want one” just a general request for information, his response was to call me right away to answer any question I might have in person, this strikes me as a pretty good way to conduct business. He explained that he is an International Import/Exporter and this were from someone he deals over seas. He also stated they are adjustable simply be turning a knob on the front (“but you may need to really get a good hold of the body with something” , they come pre-set to a given psi out put, he was sold out of certain pre-set pressures, had just a few left at what he must call an introductory price as he is making no money at this price and they will have to go up some in the future, more will be available in the future, he can get these to fit many different airguns..... . As I do not have the fiscal means to just purchase things spur of the moment, the rifle belonged to a friend and a few other reasons I told him I “think I want one but...” his response was he would set one aside with my name on it for a day but if I knew I did not want it please let him know. This also struck me as a pretty decent way of conducting business.
It turned out I could order one and at a price too good to be true (that is always a little scarey). I sent him a US Postal M/O (he does except other forms of payment but I like Postal Money Orders) and 96 hours later a regulator arrived here, that struck me as a pretty good way to conduct business.
Installation as well as adjustment instructions were included. The installation instructions were straight forward and included pictures and it all fit on a single page. While I would be able with my limited skills to follow all the minor mods recommended they seemed geared somewhat towards power and I don’t mind taking things apart more than once, heck it is fun as long as it is by choice not out of necessity. So, I spent a leisurely 20 minutes pulling to air gauge out of the Marauder and sliding the reg in. Aired it up and fired 40 shots over the chrony just to see what this somewhat too inexpensive regulator achieved without mods or adjustments to the reg or the rifle.
The results were a 9fps extreme spread, hot darn buddy! And I am fairly certain I had one odd pellet mixed in the tin or it would have been 6fps not that I cant live with any single digit number. As I am low on air & .22 pellets and it is Garden season that was the extent of today’s testing but I will be doing a bit more testing as soon as I get the chance and try to keep folks updated but so far this has been a most pleasant dealing.
Hey and he is an Import/Export person who seems to deal with just about anything legal having to do with airguns which might help out some of the forum members here. His link:

John, thanks for your post with all this great info.  I've been curious about regulators.  Seems like the one you got is working well for you.  Please let us know how you like it as you get to use it more.

Thanks
