Seal Question?
« on: March 19, 2010, 04:56:36 PM »
What is the difference between the Tesla and the Apex seal JM sells?  Do they differ enough to make one more desirable over the other?  Trying to decide which one to use in a Big Cat before I get into it.  Need some advice form the experienced tuners and DIYers around the forum.  Thanks for all your help.

Not sure of the difference, but I bet somebody will chime in and let you know. I can tell you that I have the Apex in my Big Cat and I'm very pleased with the way it shoots.

Not sure which one I used, got some idea. When I ordered my spring for my whisper, I ordered both the telsa and the apex, they came in a plastic bag together with no marking. I first used what I thought was the telsa seal by using my micrometer to tell the size. If correct I used the telsa seal first, very hard seal, hard to seat on the piston, gun cocked harder than usual and  after about 500 shots the seal pulled off the piston, may not have seated good, said it was hard to get on piston. Tore gun apart, got the old seal out, cleaned the chamber, grabbed the other seal, I think it was the apex seal, softer seal, very easy to put on the piston, cocks very smooth, have over 500 shots on it and it just seems to get better. If I have the seals straight, I would say use the apex small seal.

Jeff,

I have both seals at this time, the Apex is a red harder seal and the Tesla is a black seal that seems a little more pliable, but not much.  I was wanting to know what would justify using one as opposed to the other.  Is there a question of abnormalities in the combustion chamber that would make one the better choice or is it just a matter of personal preference.  Thanks for your response.  I currently have an Apex seal in my whisper and about 800 shoots thru it and it has proven to be the second most outstanding upgrade I have made to any of my guns short of a "GOLD CDT TRIGGER".  I had ordered a couple of each with my last order from JM along with a couple of springs for other peoples guns.  Which seal do you currently have in your Big Cat?  Thanks again.

Tim,
I don't have a big cat, I have a whisper, now I'm not sure which seal I have in it. The harder one was black and the softer one was blue I think. The softer one measured over 1 inch while the harder one measured .995.
