Pest Gun for a Cheap Friend

Hey all.

I've an old friend who was asking me about what air rifle he ought to get as his old Sheridan is losing it's seals and he eyes are about like mine.

I am hesitant to recommend the BC 1200 after the change in design. In any case, that still needs a trigger to make it a good gun, if you can get an old one.

So, what manner of scoped rifle do you guys recommend for a cheap "pester", mostly starlings and sparrows?

That looks like a very good value. With the MM job and the glass, it's a lot of rifle for the money. I haven't shot one but I have a '34, and it is a much nicer rifle IMO than the BC.

I would still recommend patching up that old Sheridan because all it probably needs are seals/O-rings. Tim at Mac1 is the authority on them, and there are other guys who work on 'em.

I would look at the B-25 in the bamboo stock in .177 or the B-26 in .177. The 26 will be a little slower but a little lighter in weight. Both have very acceptable triggers. Now don't forget Mike Melick is "Best Airguns" as well. I regret selling my 26 in .177 but what can you do. You can see what a basic 25 in .177 w/scope will run you with a debur and lube tune. I'd choose a lubed MM gun over the Gamo any day.

I agree, I'd choose a MM tuned gun over a GAMO any day of the week.  

I have a synthetic stocked Ruger Blackhawk, which is the same gun as the B-26, and I have to tell you it's one nice shooter.  Mined isn't tuned, it's still bone stock, but I love it.  The same rifle tuned and lubed by MM would only be that much better    

The reason I bought my Blackhawk was because I already owned a .22 cal  RWS 34 Panther and I loved the rifle so much that I wanted to get one in .177 cal.   I saw that Sportsmansguide was selling the Blackhawk for $89 and knowing that it was the chinese clone of the RWS 34 and considering it was so nicely priced I decided to get the Blackhawk and give it a try before I spent 3 times as much on the RWS.     Well, long story short..... best $89 bucks I ever spent    The Blackhawk is so nice and so close to the higher priced RWS 34 in all aspects that it's amazing,, and remember, mine is stock.  If your friend gets a MM tuned B-26 it's going to be sweeeeeet

Good choice for your friend. You can't go wrong with a Mike Melick tuned rifle. I had a B26 at one time that was awesome. The only reason I got rid of it was 'cause I picked up an R9 gold finger.

Can't go wrong with the B26's for pest control, sample pic's of critters taken with my .177. Hunting result's may very depending on shot placement, pellet and shooters skill.   Ed

Patch up the old sheridan, and put an air venturi mount on it. Can't go wrong there.
