My B26 .22 is whole again. New spring too
« on: March 22, 2010, 11:15:59 AM »
So I got some repair parts from Mike m for my B26-2 .22 cal. including 2 springs and piston seals. One OEM style spring and a shorter German spring. Tried the OEM and the cocking shoe bent then broke so I got a new one from Mike and tried the shorter spring. It cocks very smooth with very little twist or twang and I am able to do a 1/4 inch bullseye at about 35 yards with it, and stack pellets at 25 yards. I set up some bottle caps in the 8 yard range. (Bedroom to living room) and found the gun would not penetrate the capes unless they were shot at with the inside facing me. With the original OEM I could pop those caps from either direction.
So I was thinking to put the Factory spring in when I hear a nutter way out back at 35 yards. So I loaded up an RWS Superdome and aimed for the head and got him just behind and below the ear but it didn't drop him. He was running all over the back yard. So I loaded up another and followed him from the deck for about half a minute then he stopped about 20 yards out I took the shot and it smashed him right in the head just seconds before my big dog Dowser got to him.

So the gun is effective with the short spring but I am left wondering if the more powerful spring would have broke his neck and made it a cleaner kill as there was no exit wound, or would I have missed?
I did set up a tin soup can at the 35 yard range and was able to put hole in that, I didn't go and see if it went through both walls but maybe this will power up some as the seal and spring breaks in.

I may need to borrow my friends crony again and compare it to before the spring broke.

BTW the stock looks great and still can't tell where it had cracked.
Mike, no the Other Mike!

The Guns all tuned by me.
