I disagree with y'all on this one. It's all about shot placement. The perfectly placed shot to the testicles would probably drop a pig. I'm 190 lbs and I'm pretty sure it would drop me and probably blow my eyes out in the process. Would be laying there like a grouper that just came up from 900 ft. Lol

yeah not really. A friend of mine shot a hog twice with 308 about 4 inches apart. She hit both nicE heart shots and it still killed a couple dogs on the way out. Was about a 300 lb pig but still 2 shots from a 308. Man that's a bad mofo. I wouldn't even atempt with a pellet rifle.

DJ.   It would be a rather "nutty" thing to try !!!!  :D  :D

As far as hunting any critter, it's better to have too much gun... than find out you didn't have enough. And if you have to ask - most likely you need a bigger gun.

As I suspected, today I went to that friend and no boars in sight :emoticon: .I'll try tomorrow at dask when they seem more active (at least is what they told me...)

I'll bring with me my bow with some arrow I bought just for the party :p (usually I shoot woodden arrow with hand crafted tops in the 15th century style).

Anyway I have a bit of idea of how tough these hogs are,I had for3 years a 80lb potbelly pig as a pet and "she" was fu**ing hard.

I'll keep you informed...

I'm sitting on the fence on this one but I do realize that it takes a great shot to the right location to put a hurting on the pork. Their showing up here and becoming a problem with the farmers up north and the DnR want's them dropped on the spot. I still want to give em a go hehe and growing up on a farm with some very large pig's I've seen some thing's that got me thinking. :o Here's a story of a young lad on a farm and spending the morning trying to round up several boar's that had rooted their way out of the pen. There they are father and son chasing these 250lb pig's around the yard and trying to direct them back towards the open gate to the pen. One boar just doesn't want to go so the father which was very upset at this time pick's up a stone about the size of a baseball and throw's a fast pitch at the boar from about 12yrds away. To the boy's surprise the stone strikes the boar dead center between the eyes followed be another surprise as the boar drop's to it's side and go's into a pig style death dance. :o  The dance went on for several minutes then stopped and the father and son approached the heap of pork slowly and then gave it several pokes with a garden rake, we have a dead pig here. My dad was as shocked as I was as we looked down at the boar and then at the stone that had dropped him, never have forgotten that day mostly because I had to dress out that big sucker and I had a day of river fishing planned. Call it a lucky shot or hitting the sweetspot with a stone but my dad and I still bring up that day, he laughs and I curse that pig for a missed fishing trip. Ed

Thanks Ed this story is really funny,I still find hard to imagine a 250 lb hog killed with a stone thrown between the eyes. :) I wish I'd be so "lucky", maybe before going to that friend I should plan a fishing trip too :p .

Check the Gamo web site. They have a couple of wild boar by air riflekills on video with. It all comes down to how close you are and how exact your shot is. Looks like a skull shot in between the eye and the ear.

yep i agree if you can group your .22 in nickel size groups at 20 yds 2 inches behind the eye at 15 to 20 yds, will drop it like a hot rock. every time!! there skulls are thin behind the eye a 25 fpe .22 will easily go deep into the brain probably make to the other side of the skull. hell i'd give it a try. why not. if you can group them consistently . give it a try. just keep a .44 mag by your side in case you get a flier. and *_*_*_*_*_* it off. have fun and get some pics if you do it!!!

My option is that you should not try taking a pig with the 22 cal AR. If in doubt you should probly not try it. As far as the long bow with a 60 pound pull is plenty. I have a long bow with a 74 pound pull and I have shot a buffalo at about 35 yards. I was shooting a double bladed broad head and managed to hit a rib square on so as not to even touch the muscle between the rib. The arrow still had enough power to penetrate to the fleches, it was a one shot kill. I was also however using the thin carbon fiber shafts that I weighted for additional penetration.
