Question for bcshooter
« on: March 24, 2010, 05:11:20 AM »
I noticed that you have a 350 Feuerkraft Pro Compact (I love that rifle, I have a regular 350 Magnum) that you scoped with a Bushnell Banner 6-18x50. I had this scope on my 350 for a short time, then moved it to my 34 Panther. I like the scope so much that I am thinking of getting another one for my 350. My 350 is currently scoped with a Tasco 6-24x42 which I'm not that crazy about. It was cheap at Natchez and I guess you get what you pay for. My question is how is that scope holding up on a rifle that has a pretty nasty recoil? Some have stated that anything less than a Bushnell Elite (way too expensive for me) will not hold up on this rifle.

Gerry, I have two Bushnell Banner 6-18x50 scopes, one mounted on my TX200 with a dampa mount and the other mounted on my Feuerkraft Pro Compact. I put it on the Feuerkraft because i installed a Vortek PG2 kit in it. The shot cycle is really smooth with this kit, so I am keeping my fingers crossed and am saving my receipt just in case.So I shot about 200 pellets thru her, and more to come.I had a B 28 .22cal mounted with the Bushnell Banner scope and after 200 shots, the scope was toast. Returned to Bushnell and five weeks later they sent me a new one. That's the one I have on my TX200, after about 750 shots it is in good shape. I think the dampa mount helps too. I personally think most of the time it turns out to be a lucky draw, one out of ten scopes will be defective from manufacturing and the double recoil we subject them to doesn't help..........Shoot Safe and Enjoy...Bill

Funny that you should mention the PG2 because I just installed it on my 350. I'm very impressed with it. I'm getting 21.5 FPE, which is more than I thought I would. The shot cycle seems more like a gas piston than a springer. It still has some kick to it, but  less than it used to. What kind of FPE are you getting with your Feuerkraft now? And by the way, what is that white cream lubricant that comes with the kit? Strange stuff, but it seems to work well.

Gerry, I am clueless about the white grease, but I applied it just like they told us to do. Maybe white lithium grease?? The only thing I did before install was to clean out the entire compression tube with alcohol. Came out sqeaky clean. I have about 200 pellets thru her up till now. Your fpe is a little higher than mine. I'm getting 21.36fpe with a 12.65gr,20.96fpe with a 14.00gr WC,20.68fpe with a 14.30gr HP,20.48fpe with a 14.30gr CP and 20.14fpe with a 14.60gr FTS. I am happy with these numbers, but I thinkit can be a little higher.........Bill

I did the same, but I also burnished the receiver tube with moly paste and put a light coat of moly on the (Apex) piston seal.

Moly paste ...yes, on edge of seal andbottom edge of piston before inserting into receiver wall,I did not apply any on receiver wall before inserting piston. NO TAR was used at all on spring only their white grease. I guess time will tell, I plan on giving it about 2000 pellets and see if performance is level orthe velocity increases, or the spring fatigues. Hopefully velocity increases and the spring is good for 5000 plus pellets. My 350 has a sharp thwack, like lightening when I shoot and its fairly loud. How is yours...........Bill

Mine is actually quieter than before the PG2. However something a little scary did happen. The first time I fired it  I used Beeman FTS Gold pellets and the shot was fine, but on the second shot there was the dreaded DETONATION. Lots of smoke out of the muzzle and it sounded like a .22 rimfire. The third shot it happened again. The fourth shot I switched to a heavier pellet (Beeman Silver Sting) and ever since it has been nice and quiet with no smoke. I chronied it after about 25 shots and have only fired about 50 shots since. The only theory I have is that the first shot heated up the moly and/or blew some into the bore and it ignited on the second and third shot. I don't know. This wekend I'll take it apart and have a look at the seal, spring, etc. to see if there is any damage. The chrony spread was 22fps which is not great, but if there was damage it would probably be a lot worse and also the FPE wouldn't have been as high.
