Scope Booster ?
« on: March 25, 2010, 02:22:56 PM »

Has anyone tried these ? If it works as advertised this could be a good thing for those of us with aging eyes.

BulzEyePro  Optical Boosters

BulzEyePro  now offers more than a dozen lenses with 2.5X, 3X, 3.5X or 4X magnification  designed to enhance scope performance without need for permanent modification.  The available housings are either screw-in or slip-on, and together cover the  entire spectrum of scope eyepieces with diameter from 1.43 to 1.80 inches.  Essentially, the boosters increase magnification while maintaining the same  field of view. The company also claims the boosters reduce mirage parallax,  enhance clarity and brightness in low-light shooting conditions, and help to  reduce the negative effects of presbyopia. How expensive are they? If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Litschert made power boosters in the 1940's. I've never tried a scope with one but I think they worked OK. The thing is, any time you add another lens, you lose some light transmission. The less light your eye receives, the darker the image and lower the resolution. It's kind of like blowing up a newspaper picture too much. And, the cheaper the add-on lens quality, the worse this gets, not to mention abberations in the edges of the image.

If these are like the tele-converters I use on my camera they should be sharp and clear with no distortion at all. The tele-converters come in 1.5x,2x,3x and are pretty pricey. I use it on my telephoto lenses. They will enhance your shooting distance by 1.5x or 2x etc. On my nikor lense 18mm x70mmwhen I use the 2x converterthe camera can zoom in at 140mm or backout to 36mm. In relation to the cost of a lense they are about 1/4 the cost of a lense..........Bill
