Tuning Question???

Has anyone experimented with different weights on the tophat in in tuning the Gamo guns?  I was wondering what the best weight to different type of spring combinations might be.  I have machined  a couple for my guns and they are considerably lighter than the OEM tophats, and the guns perform excellent with great accuracy.  I was wanting to try and find out if anybody had really gotten down and did a hard study of the changes, however suttle or extreme the weight difference could be on gun performance.  Any information anyone can share will be appreciated.  Thanks to the family.

Hell ...3 weeks and no replys...I will bump it back up to the
top  and yer may get a few replys...Come on guys...

Sure have..lighter..less power smoother fireing cycle...
Heavyer..more power , harsher fireing cycle.
about 15 to 20 grams either way makes a big diffrents..

Pete, thanks for the input.  I have used a couple of lighter top hats in my personal guns and it has worked out really smooth and controlable on the firing cycle and of course the accuracy is outstanding after a tune-up.  I was wondering if there is a point where you can be to light of weight on the top hat, or to heavy and appx. where have the lines in the sand been drawn?  I have used my old powder scale to weigh mine in the past and i stay between 370 to 425 grains on the top hats I have made and used with what I feel is pretty good success so far on Whisper and Big Cats that I have tuned.  Thanks again.

Just a follow-up. If you will experiment on the weight of the top hat try to maintain using the same type and weight of pellet. Using different pellets will give you different results. It would also be very beneficial on your experiment if you can maintain the lube on the compression chamber by not taking out the piston unit and just pull out the spring from the receiver. Stick to one piston spring first so you can come up with your perceive idea on how the top hat weight correlates to your subjective results. HTH.

I've been using the same spring and just changing the top hats as you have suggested.  The best pellet always seems to be the RWS Superdomes with the Tarantula spring in my Whisper, or the E3650 in my Big Cat.  At 10 to 15 meters the Meisterkuglen 8.2grs. are a close second in the Big Cat.  I have another Big Cat to tune and it is going to be a bone stock tune-up, but will be making a new top hat for it, any exact weight recommendations for this tune?  Thanks guys for the input.
