Patriot spring?
« on: March 27, 2010, 01:46:06 PM »
I put up my stock Webley Patriot .25 cal England made in a crony test today and it was shooting JSB match Diabolos 25.4 grain pellets at 27 FPE, speeds were from 695.7 to 692.2. Which pellet weight do you shoot in your Patriot?. That you know for a fact will not fatigue the spring in the rifle for longer spring durability. Personally I really like this pellet and it shoots great in this rifle, but then again I have never fired any other .25 cal pellet rifle but this one. yfis, dan

Sounds a bit low. 21 gr Diana domes make just under 30 fpe in mine (800 fps). Could be 25 gr is a bit heavy for this powerplant. While pump rifles are quite efficient and make good power numbers with heavy pellets, spring guns operate best within  a specific weight range. Heavy pellets don't make more power, they just go slower and make less power than   pellets that are in the preferred operating range of the rifle.
Or, it could just be time for a new spring and seal.

That sounds a little light. My 177 350 mag firing 10.65 gr pellets hits at over 20 fpe. I would think a 25 cal would ht harder.

Thanks for the input, I just do not want to shoot too light of a pellet in this rifle and  so far it's been very accurate, but then again I have never shoot any other .25 cal pellet rifles before. An air gunsmith around my area told me 27 to 29 lbs of energy is about the norm depending on pellets used. He said if I shoot lighter pellets the poundage would go up but then again the pellet would shed power faster down range also. He also said don't worry and just shoot that rifle and have fun, as the power  is in the norm I assure you, he said.
