« on: March 27, 2010, 02:09:27 PM »
I was wondering which of this two gas spring is better quality the Theoben gas spring or the Crosman gas spring?
I have been offered the option to up grade my Webley patriot with this two gas spring options.
Please let me know of your experience you have had with this gas springs.
Are there any other gas spring brands that these two? Thanks in advance. yfis, dan

Theoben.  I have two .22 cal. CFXes - one with the Theoben and one with the Air Venturi/Nitro Piston.  The Theoben propels a 14.3 grain pellet at close to the listed 750 fps, whereas the AV/NP barely gets a 14.3 grain pellet up to 680 fps.  The Theoben is also smoother to cock and with less cocking effort.

The Theoben gas spring for Gamos are $145 plus $10 s/h.  They don't take credit cards over at AirGunWerks.com, so you have to send them a money order or a check (the check will take a week longer to clear).  I installed the gas spring myself, with very specific instruction on how to do so.  It is not installed the same way as the AV/NP gas spring.

Should last a really long time, if there are no leaks in it.  Compare them to gas pistons that lift up a hatch on a car or minivan.  Those are constantly under pressure for days on end, until someone opens up the hatch.  Same thing with the gas ram in your gun.  They'll allow you to leave the gun cocked for long periods of time until you're ready to fire, without any loss of speed.  They're also less susceptible to damage from using too light of a pellet, whereas a spring can bend or break.  I'm not entirely sure of the lifespan of the gas rams.  Someone else here with more experience with them would be better able to tell you.

Thanks for your answer once again, I'm just gathering all the info I can before deciding on the gas ram in the near future.

I've read, don't recall where at the moment, - that the piston should out last a spring under normal conditions.
