setting of pellets in chamber
« on: March 28, 2010, 06:34:42 PM »
I was trying to set pellets of a higher wieght & they where tight & I was leaving a finger nail mark on the skirt, figured it was bad for acruacy so I tryed the flat of a can nice set. now I'm useing a rubber 38 cal w.c bullet (used for indoor shooting when the wife isn't around) seems too work great? this is on a break barrell nice & centered in chamber and I'm testing for accracy now, seems for less flyers& depth in chamber is same always.any thouths on it or is it a dead road? and NO the bullet is not in a caseing, it's on a rod.

I have the same problem with some pellets not sliding in and leaving the fingernail mark on them. Those pellets in my guns usually turned out to be slower and less accurate. Don't know if it was because I was basically damaging them as I put them in or if they just don't shoot as good. Instead of finding a way to push them in is just save them for can shooting so I'm not burning up the pin point accuracy ones.

Another popular trick is to use a cocktail stirrer, the one with the ball on the end!  :)

I use a piece of 5/16 wooden dowel. Works good for me.

Why don't you just get the Beeman Pellet Seater from PyramydAir?

On all my springers, I used a conical shaped stone that attaches to my dremel but used finger power to clean and polish the in-lead so the skirt just slide in and no problem slipping back out. Just like re-crowning so the pellet skirt don't get buggered.

I use a device called a COLGATE WISP. It has a toothbrush on one end with a POINT on the other. That POINT is what you use to seat the pellet. Place it in the pellet and push it in. It's a soft material and fits into the skirt of the pellet when seating it in the breach. The pointed end is a soft rubbery tip and won't harm the rifle or damage the pellet. I bought them in a drugstore. They come in multi-packs and are reasonably priced. They work well for me.

I used to use the Beeman Pellet Seater, but I kept getting oil in my martini.

Now I use a swizzle stick and the martinis are better, and shooting much more fun lol

No, the Beeman Seater can't be beat, just clip it to your shirt, and shoot away !
