Just another branch of this pervasive shooting hobby of mine!
A .50 cal double barrel percusion pistol that's been in the family for generations and saw service in the days of the RAJ in India ( so the story goes). Probably used as a snake or tiger stopper!
Will still blow a lead ball through 3 inches of soft  pine at 25 yards but don't fill it up too much with powder these days.
Makes a differance from spinning tin cans with the air pistol.

Interesting piece you have there.    Thanks for posting the photos.   Does it have Damascus barrels?    If so, it would be best as you said to keep your loads on the light side.   And use only Black Powder for the loads.   Smokeless powder  use  would take it apart easily.

Thanks Bogey. Yep Damascus twist barrels. Only feed it on FG blackpowder, bit slower burn and do not over pack the charge. Run at between 25 -30 grains by volume. Gets that big old ball moving at moderate pace without too much stress on the action.Gunsmith inspected the bores and welds and all aok which is amazing considering its history and miles it has travelled.
It only comes out to play a few times a year.
Think it's had it's working life in hotter climes.

its a huhday(bad spelling) used on the back of elephants too keep tigers off your butt when attacking,nice piece of history there.
