HELP
« on: March 29, 2010, 04:01:25 AM »
Hey all,
I had just returned a benj.trail xl because the detent was bad @ the barrel & it was a bit heavy.
I owned a .177 whisper before  but the spring went bad & I returned it.
It sure was an accurate riffle though.
I am really confused on which riffle to order, so I went with the whisper .22 nitro piston.
P/A said that all their new whispers come with plastic triggers but if you have the n/p installed they  have to change the trigger to the metal one because the n/p won't work with the plastic trigger.
I wanted to make sure because I have a trigger waiting for it.
I hope I made the right choice on the riffle, I want something accurate & strong .22
Also I was reading about the trigger block being different in the new  gamo's.
If they put a metal trigger in this thing from P/A does it have the old trigger block?
Will this thing be ok?
Will I be able to put CDT trigger in this thing
without any problems?
Or should I change my order?

I wasn't aware that they change the trigger mechanism when they install the nitro piston.  I would assume that if they are going to change the trigger to the metal one then they would have to change out the entire trigger group, but then again I haven't had the opportunity to personally inspect one of the new GAMO trigger groups so perhaps I'm wrong.  I'm sure one of the members who knows for sure will chime in.

As for the Whisper .22   ,,,, you've already made the order so I would say don't second guess yourself.  Get the rifle, shoot it and see how you like it.  If it works for you then great, if not then you can always return it to P.A. and order something else.  :)

As for the XL,,, yes,, they are a heavy rifle but the sling works great for those long walks in the woods.  I love mine and  just finished doing the final sight in with it.  Just waiting for some nice weather so I can take her hunting.

Another option you could look into if it winds up that you don't like the whisper .22 is the standard Trail NP  (not the XL).  It's lighter and much easier to cock and designed more for hunting AND plinking,,,,, where as the the XL is definitely not designed to target shoot with.

Let us know how it turns out for ya with that Whisper....

Jeff

you are correct when i sent my cfx back for the gas ram install they clearly stated to me on the phone that if it was newer than 2009 it would need the trigger changed for the ram would not work with the new triggers fortunately mine is an 2008 and was good to go with the grtIII already in it.

On my plastic trigger CFX, the reason why the N/P cannot be install is that the cylinder of the piston is a bit longer (within 1 cm) that would prevent the proper cocking of the gun.

The reason is that the trigger group of the plastic version is one block with rear stop, a whole block is aluminum.......they build it strong and the front side of the block is about 1 cm more forward than it's metal brother.

I would like to know how P/A can install a metal trigger and N/P on the gun so that I may be able to install one in my .22 CFX.

The only thing I can see is like Jeff said, they must be swapping out the entire trigger group.

Swapping just the trigger won't do it because it's the sear that contacts the piston, not the trigger.

I wonder if Gamo is selling, or swapping, the older steel trigger groups as a replacement part ????

Thanks Gene, didn't know Gamo had made so many changes to the internals. Too bad for new customers, but they just made the older Gamos a bit more valuable.

Matt,
Like Jeff said, I think you'll like the Trail NP, or the NPSS.

Check out Gene's excellent reviews of both .

So if pyramid air has the metal trigger asseblys and is installing them will they sell them outright so we can order a rifle then install the metal trigger ourselves and of course the grt trigger. Sounds like that would solve the plastic trigger problems for those that want a good rifle.

dj,
Probly best to ask PA that. We're only spit-balling about "if" they are changing out parts. Don't know for sure what they are doing other than that they may have a fix for the plastic trigger to get the gas ram swapped in.

If I had, or were thinking of buying a plastic triggered Gamo, I think it would be worth contacting them to find out.

Unfortunatly you cannot swap out the whole trigger group from new to older. The back of the compression tube where the trigger group sits is different and it will not work. Gamo has made it so you cannot interchange trigger groups.

Thanks Guy's,
The one that told me this was in sales.
So I called back & talked to one of the techs today.
He said that some whispers come with plastic triggers those
won't except the N/P.
The one I ordered with  the syn.stock comes with the metal trigger
so it will except the N/p.
It is an older model.
Soon all will have plastic triggers & only be spring.
I should of make an extra call to them in the beginning.
You all explained it though, metal trigger won't go with a plastic trigger block.
Thanks again.
Matthew

That's messed up. Almost like they planned for that. Well will just scrub pawn shops and stuff for old gamos when or if I decide I need one.
