BSA Scope
« on: March 29, 2010, 11:04:57 AM »
Just got my BSA scope back from warranty. Just mounted it. Haven't shot any shots threw her with the new scope. When changing the illuminated center dot color, I noticed it also changes the whole picture a slight tinge blue, or which ever color you choose. Is this normal? The scope is a BSA HM39X50RGBD. Also wondering how accurate I should be on mounting the reticle level? As level as possible I guess, ... any good methods of getting it level? I rested the stock on a level surface and aimed at a level standing on a table. also put the level on the top elevation knob cover with the gun stock resting on a level table. seems ok. Is this important to be perfect anyways? More concerned about the picture beening slightly blue when on the blue illumination ceter dot setting. Didn't remember the old one doing that.

Thanks
Randy

I am no expert buy any means but the method i use for mounting a scope i first mount the base to the rifle then vise or sandbag the rifle as level as you can and i know the tube and barrel on most all air guns are round so unless you have a flat spot to make level by eye should be close, now i have struck two lines on the wall in my basement level horizontal and another line level parralel and i use the lines and line them up with the cross hairs and secure the scope using the backright to front left then back left to front right pattern when tightening the ring caps. this method has served me well but if you are using two piece base you may want to have the scope finger tight in the rings when mounting the base to the reciever to help asure a good alignment but a one piece base is generally the best way  there is my 2cent for what it is worth i hope it all works out for you.

Yea that sounds about right. Like you said about most parts are round and it's not easy...but I think I got it as close as I can. I mostly wanta know if the view is normal with the illuminated dot turned on. If you check out the picture, it looks like most of the picture is a slight blue color except a bit in the top right area is clear. I would think the whole picture should be clear and just the dot should be illuminated. It seems odd that if the picture should be a slight blue tinge, why is there some clear spots? The picture is on the high (#3 position) for blue. On #1 and #2 settings it's not as bad, but still the picture is slightly blued. The green does the same. But I can't tell if the red does it as well. (I'm red deficient) :0  Just wondering if anyone has a BSA RGB illuminated center dot scope and does theirs do the same to the whole picture...or just light up the dot only.

Thanks for the advice

Randy

i think it is all in the low quality scopes ...i have a leapers 4-16-50 illuminated and it does the same thing just red and green though and i can actually see the lights in the scope but after purchasing a higher end illuminated reticle that was not visible.

if it enables you to hit what your aiming at and holds zero that counts.
