Well I'm hoping he's alright since we do stress safety first here. :) If he's been messing with the B3 I hope he didn't get any fingers left in the loading port on it. The B's can be finicky and you gotta keep your digit's clear at all times. Ed

Yea as my dad has so kindly pointed out I had a pretty bad accident while working on the B... Now I wont say its 0 fault I was not wearing safty glasses at the time of the accident and that may or may not have helped because of the angle of impact but...... it basicaly boils down to a freak accident here is what happend....

I just finish reassembling my project for test fit and function beforerefinishing the parts. Took the action out of the spring compressor and was racking the action getting averything to line up and come together... well the sear caught and as SOON as I started to relaxe and move it away from me the sear let go and the handle was jerked from my handcame up and knocked me for a loop... Caught me a glancing blow to the cheek and and more or less delivered the brunt of its force to my eyeball and top of my eye socket.....

To be honest I am in pretty bad shape but should be ok... my eyelid was torn in two places and had to be stiched back together, The eye itself is really swollen but catscans show it to be intact I have to wait till monday to go back to the specialist for another look after the swelling has went down some.. and I have one HELL of a black eye... :)

Good news is I can still see and my eye is still in there :) there really shouldnt be any permanent damage ( atleast I am hoping not)

Moral of this story.... No matter HOW safe you are nor how mechanicaly inclined you are ACCIDENTS can and will happen!!! I am a pretty well trained individual(like dad said been training with firearms and safety and plain useing your head all my life) I am a mechanicaly inclined individual and I always try to error on the side of safety(because I am a tad clumsy...) but things can and will come up and bite you when your not expecting as soon as you let that guard down..... So STAY SAFE and dont take shortcuts!!!!!!!

Now... for the picthe old manis so wanting me to post.....

Sorry to see that happen and sometimes things go wrong. By the way, for those that work on your springers.... although a different type accident, that is the kind of thing that can happen if you do not use a well constructed spring compressor.

Sincerely hope you eye is OK. Maybe it's not such a bad idea to wear some shop goggles when working on these things. Besides that big spring doing damage, I imagine an errant trigger spring can make a mess of its own should it hit you in the eye.

Let us know how the eye exam turns out. I'm thinking of you.

LOL dave yes it had better be the best shooting B3 there is!!! :)

Ariscool, Yes I planned on making a post to help warn others that think things like not using spring compressors or other unsafe things is ok.... and just to remind everyone that even when your being safe things can still happen! if the pic can save someone elses eye or teeth or fingers or whatever well alittle pain and discomfort on my part will be worth it.....

Redfeather, yes that was my one real mistake... I was not wearing shop glasses... just my regular glasses.... I SHOULD have had glasses on I know I should have and even though because of the angle I dont think it would have mattered it MAY have...

Bob, Yup 100 percent agree!! I know when I built my compressor it has a bit of flex I was not comfortable with so I went and added some ribs to the bottom to stiffen the whole thing up!! a compressor failure could easily end up that bad or worse!!!!

Bogey, hehehe yea it was exactly one of those accidents accept I remember using much worse words :) LOL

thanks for the well wishes everyone!! this hasnt kept me down lol!!! good chance I will be back out in the shed this evening to finish test fitting and funtion and then tearing down and prep for refinishing maybe I will post a pic or two in my thread about it with her in the stripped down stock....

EDIT P.S. I WILL have shop glasses on this time:)

Wow....that's pretty scary. I'll be buying Safety Glasses in the near future. Thanks for posting the account of the accident and photo.....just to warn other people.

Since we're talking about accidents...I'll re-post my "accident" photo while shooting at the bottom/primer of a shotgun shell. I had cut open the top and poured out the shot, wad and gun powder. When the pellet struck the primer....the brass cover flew back and hit me in the wrist.....4" or 6" higher it would've hit my face or eye (I was wearing regular reading glasses for protection.)

Just to warn others not to do this.
