I just returned from another not so good hunt at the dairy, not as windy as yesterday but there was still plenty to deal with. The snow was really coming down and since I’m either getting softer or smarter in my old age I decided to make the truck my hide for the day. I backed up next a fence where I had a clear view of the corn and cotton seed feed piles. I ranged the piles and came up with 32 yards. Then I just sat back and waited for the birds to show up.
A little planning will go into the next trip with weather like today, today I took the 350 and the B28. I always like to take 2 guns incase one has problems I have a back up. But next time I have to use the cab of the truck for a shooting position the Discovery or possibly even the two Power Lines would be a better choice. Not real easy to cock a magnum springer in the cab of a truck.
The birds did show up a few times and I did end up going 4 for 5. I had one clean miss, one fly off, and two walking wounded. I took a picture of the one that died on the feed pile and had to go hunt down the 2 wounded birds. I did get them both finished with second shots but again I didn’t feel like messing with the electric fence to go and retrieve them. While I was waiting in between flocks I had 2 curious geese walk up to within 20 yard from the truck. I attempted to get some pictures but they had walked a little further out by that time. If the weather breaks I may give it another try with some shorter guns.
