average time it takes to get a tune back?
« on: April 03, 2010, 09:25:06 AM »
Hey guys, I was just wondering of all of those who have sent there guns into top tuners, say Gene, for example, how long did it take you to get the notification that your gun was ready and that you needed to go ahead and pay.  I know Gene is swamped right now so I'm not really looking for an estimate of how long a tune would take at the moment, but rather your individual experiences and that way I could get an average.

Ive emailed Gene a few times and I guess he figures I'm a noob (which I am) and looks over at all those guns laying there to be tuned and says "you'll get it when I get to it".  lol  Which I can't realy blame him for.

In an effort to avoid bothering him any further and having him just ship my gun back to me untuned which would be understandable if I emailed him every week, I figured you guys could give me some good info to get an average time frame on receiving your guns. (it's actually my buddy's gun which I gave a tune to since he bought he an I both a Silent Cat so that we could have some quality time together ((and I wasn't really in the  position at the time to spend he $200+)) which is a very rare commodity these days...just sitting on the back porch all afternon when all the honey-do's are finished shooting starlings raiding the bird feeder and BS'ing about the good old days and having the kids come around and give us grief about shooting our 'BB" guns. lol )

He is the one with the broken R10 stock and bent barrel which I have yet to find the time to get together with him to examine and go about repairing the gun so we are down to one rifle right now and I feel sort of bad not being able to tell him when his brand new gun will be returned to him since he only had it a coupla weeks before I called him up and told him to take the scope off cuz I was sending it to this reputable guy i found online, once I found this forum,  to take all the twang out of it and put on a new trigger that would transform it into a new gun that would make it a lot easier to shoot  to repay his generousity and since palsy runs in his family and at the ripe old age of 46 it is already starting to take it toll on his hold sensitivity.

Anyway any and all info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Schapper

Schapper,

I hate to tell you that every tuner worth his or her reputation has a waiting list !

Some have a waiting list six months in advance, and they can run longer !

I'm sure there are tuners out there that don't have a waiting list, some are new, and may do a good job. Others have been around for awile and aren't that good.

So it's a question without an answer. A few months ago I sent my air gun to Gene's, and I had it back in a little over two weeks. And I told him that there wasn't any rush !! But he wasn't as busy at that time. But I would wait for Gene any day !

Thanks Bll.  I guess it depends on the time of year too, huh?  Spring has sprung, after all!!  And the thoughts of  men turn to shooting!!

I know that Gene is the best so I'll just tell my buddy that and get to work on the R10...

I have it on good authority that brother Ed (aka Shadow) is down visiting Mr. Gene right now and lending a hand w/the tunes. I know for a fact that Gene is seriously backed up w/tunes, but together they are knocking 'em out left & right. Ed has personally tuned a couple of guns for me and I have no problem saying that his work (like Gene's) is top notch! :) He's been tuning AG's for yrs. and I don't think it's a secret (any longer) that he'll be taking over for Gene (tune work) in the not too distant future. So, don't fret, I'm suret that they'll be getting to yours and everybody elses shortly and I can also say w/no hesitation...that it will be worth your buddies wait. He won't believe the difference when he gets it back!  :emoticon:
Current springers:FWB 124(.177),Gammo 440(.177),RWS 94(.177),BSA Lightning XL(.177),Daisy 1000ws(.177),Gamo 1250 custom(.20),Theoben Eliminator(.20),???

One thing I can say in my defense is that I am not fast...:) I take my time and try to be very meticulous with each and every gun I tune. I try to schedule the tunes per week but in many cases I get more guns in than scheduled from folks who just send them to me for a tunes without contacting me first..:) So I take the ones that are scheduled first and leave the unscheduled ones to be tuned when I have a break, which is not very often...:) It is a 7 day a week job tuning. I am not complaining but I am very busy and try my best to keep things in order. If I have taken longer than you feel is right then let me know in person. There is always a chance I got one out of order or misplaced in the stake of guns that are always sitting against the wall in my house...:)

That must be the problem with communication then, Gene.   I ordered my tune from your site , not here and you told me through your "sales@aiguntoys" to send it the first week of march so  I did and was wondering when to pay you mostly, but i guess that it to be determined  if the GRTIII trigger will work on the gun or not.  I didn't want to pester you anymore that I thought I had so I just posted a thread to get a general sense of how long to expect it to take.  Like I said, I know you're swamped and I saw in the main gate the you have some help ( or a slave...being chained to the work bench, eh?  SOME VISIT!!lol) coming to help out for a couple of weeks and that raised my hopes a lot the deliver date and putting my mind at ease for my buddy's  sake anyway.

Thanks for the response and at not taking offense that I posted in the Gamo Gate.  None was certainly meant!!

thanks again,
Schapper

Well, my mistake wss not asking beforehand how long (generally) a tune takes to get returned so I have no right to complain about anything "taking too long" since i never asked you in the first place how long you would think it would take to get back to me.  I contacted you to make sure the gun had arrived safely about three days after I sent it (It was the one in the Doubled-up fed ex boxes) and you responded quickly and then I noticed your emails were going to my deleted items box in my email so I though possible that was happening to you on your end also so I PM'd you here and since i know that you are very busy I just posted up a thread to get a general Idea...not to be a pain or anything.

I know precision work takes time and I really appreciate that and is why I sent it to you in the first place after coming here after getting my Silent Cat..to see what's what about this new world of AG'ing for me. (Well,  not completely new, I still have the pump Benji 342 I got as a kid, that I need to get back up and shooting,  and a benji 132 with the tootsie roll pump stock, both in .22   but new to the world of Springers!)

I roamed around the net looking at other forums for info on tuning and such and am still trying to get all the terminology down that goes witht this sport, but consider this my AG'ing home as it feels more like a family than any of the other forums...so thank all of you guys for making this place so great!

Wow, all I can say is that Gene really came through on this one!  There was some confusion as to if
i had reserved a spot to send my gun in and he not only cleared that up, tuned the gun today!!!

Thanks Gene!
