Weekend mornings
« on: April 03, 2010, 04:17:09 PM »
I just got home late last night from vacation and itching to shoot something. Lucky for me I still have the weekend. I heard a crow outside in the neighbors tree, and lucky for me my neighbors on both sides like me to shoot crows. So I snuck out the side door and eased up to the edge of the house and took aim. The distance is about 45 yards, I am shooting a 22 cal at about 640 fps. I therefore aim about 5 inches over his head and fire. I hear a smack and watch him fly towards the park  and then start his downward spiral :{ . Right after I shot other crows started making all kinds of noise. Two of which landed on my fence side by side, having not noticed me. I took aim again and fire, this time there was no movement and the crow took a crash landing. His buddy just kept cawing and did not fly. As quickly as I could I loaded another pellet having ducked back around the corner as not to be seen and poked the barrel out again and fire once more. This one did like the first and flew down the street and started his crash landing where I was also unable to retrieve. My daughters were watching this take place and the oldest stated "awesome". The youngest stated, "that was cool". I can't wait to get them hunting.

Wade great shooting, going 3 for 3 like that. Don't you hate the fly offs? All you guys posting pics of crows are killing me. I blew it on one down at the dairy the other day, I walked around the corner of the cement silage pit with an unloaded gun only to see a crow 15 yards away. But he caught the movement of me ducking back around the corner loading the gun.  You have to cute little girls there also. Good shooting. Did you do a drive by looking for the two wounded birds?

Good shooting Wade. Great luck that the first one getting hit didn't spook the others out of the area.

Your girls remind me of mine at that age. Mine thought hunting was cool too. They couldn't wait to get old enough to take the hunter safety course and go hunting with me. They don't hunt anymore, but they still enjoy a morning of trap shooting with old Dad.
