The sun came back out today so after work I hustled home and grabbed some guns for a quick little outing before the wife came home. Because I’ve been having some issues with the Big Cat I decided to shoot that one today. Lot’s of activity at the dairy seemed to keep the birds away and I didn’t see any squirrel activity around the tire piles. So I did a little plinking at various targets. Just before I decided to call it a day I watched a large flock of Starling come in and land at the back of silage pits. I missed the first shot at one on a pole, that bird has no idea how close he came to death today, I watched the pellet fly right passed his head by less than an inch. Then this bird landed on the same pole and having just missed the first bird I knew exactly how the sight picture on this one should look. A split second after the shot I heard the pellet strike a direct hit. But this one had a little life left in him and he took flight, but as he did I could see on leg hanging down and he started a fairly rapid decent towards some farm implements parked behind the tall concrete wall of the back of another silage pit. I went for a quick walk in the direction I last saw him and was quite surprised to see him lying on the ground under a hay baler. He had his head up as I approached so I went ahead and put one more into him to keep him from running away. I snatched him up for a quick photo shoot.
The Big Cat is still having some trigger problems. It still has the stock trigger in it and usually the creep in it is longer than a night in jail. But a few times today there was absolutely no creep what so ever and it would go off at the slightest touch of the trigger. Then the next shot would be the normal hard creepy trigger. Must be my guns way of telling me I need to order one of Genes gold ones. I’ve always had a lot of faith in this gun but I want something with a SAFE and consistent trigger.
