Quietest PCP
« on: April 08, 2010, 08:50:12 AM »
Hello All,
I'm in the market for a new PCP. Can I have some opinions about report. I want to buy the quietest shrouded rifle. Super Ten Bull maybe?

Have not shot a Super 10, but have heard they are pretty quiet. What kind of power you want will heavily effect the report. The Marauder is probably the quietest out of the box.
About as quiet as you could want, with very good power levels and you can easily deping it to get it almost silent.  Most other guns can be modded with aftermarket moderators
or shrouds of different types to get that "mouse fart" noise level.

AirArims S410 ERB is pretty quiet even at higher power, but when turned down to half pawer, around 15 - 17 FPE, it is pretty much "Pfffft", packing a solid enough punch with 18.1 gr JSB Exact Jumbo Heavies to be effective for back yard varmint control out to 25 yards or so.  At 3/4th power, not much louder, and it will filp small, bushy tailed rodents easily out to 50 yards.  Cant say it is the "quietest" PCP, but it is plenty stealthy for backyard suburban shooting for me.

I'm too after a quiet PCP and have been reading articles on line and posting questions here for sometime.  From what I learned the BSA super ten, many FX's (check out this website and some of packages they are offering  http://www.ctico.com/fx.htm), and the fully shoruded version of HW 100 are all quiet.  I also learned that many of the power adjustable ones tend to shoot relatively loud on max power set up which, to me, defeats its purpose.  I'm still researching and will take my time.  I called few retailors between oct.2009 and Jan 2010 asking about the super ten but nobody had it.  Do not waste your money on a low power air rifle in the pursue of the quiet one.

My .22 BSA Scorpion T-10 (Full power only) and .177 FX Cyclone (On full power) are very quiet....I only hear the hammer`s "ping" when it hits the valve(?) inside. My .22 Air Arms S410SL carbine is loud on full power compared to the first two. I`ve read that the full length model is very quiet also.....but I`ve not had a chance to try out that model.

Btw, the Scorpion puts out 28 to 32 ft. lb., the Cyclone`s about 22 ft. lb. and the S410SL carbine puts out 24 to 26 ft. lb.

It is hard to imagine how anything could get quieter than a de-pinged Marauder, provided it's kept sub-sonic.

What is de-pinged?  Does it come with your Marauder?  Is it Marauder specific?

Basically it is a rubber tube that you cut and shape to fit your air chamber. Or you can get real fancy and make one if you have a lathe

I have shot a Super 10 bull .22 and my Sm100 with a Zozodny mod is much quieter. Today I shot a T12 whisper .22 and I'm sold. I'm told it is as quiet as a Marauder but I haven't shot one of them. To answer your question I'm trying to hang around a grand. Now I start the scope quest.

is not as quiet as a Marauder. The older ones with baffles are pretty much equal. If you bought a new one I hope you got the sale price at AoA, $599.00 I think. That is a
great deal for that high quality rifle, and I think they have the highly touted smooth twist barrel.

Marauder has two main sounds- the mechanical hammer falling, and a faint ringing from the tube. As Gene says, the depingers are plasticrings or insertsthat just cancel the ring (which only the shooter hears anyway).

I wish you luck with whatever you pick and I'm sure they are all fine choices. Marauder is an exceptional made-in-USA value (as is Disco+TKO) and it is very darned quiet. It is quieter than an R7 and a very accurate repeater.
