That's incredible!
« on: April 08, 2010, 08:55:55 AM »

Today finally, after weeks of wind, rain and cold, the first day with a warm sunshine appeared,I fast decided to go out with one of my daughters to lether enjoy this great day, then I thought, why dad can't enjoy it too? long story short, while I was waiting for some yellow beaks to comewithin range, this magpie flew on a tree 38 yards away(I measured it :p ) I felt enough confident with my HW40 .177 to dare the shot and let the JSB exact fly on it's way and...SPOFF!!Down it fell like a sand bag.Hereit is for the ritual pics, enjoy.

I think I got Heckle, but lost the hat in the dive, Jeckle was still cawing on the top of another tree.
I'll try to get it today...

Great long distance shot with your HW 40 at that Magpie....and up a tree also.  Nice colourful bird....don`t think there`s any Magpies in Canada.

Nice shot N Strike 38 yds:) Those Maggies can really hurt you and will draw blood! When riding bike to school in australia I used get attacked by them when they are nesting. Do the ones where you live attack during nesting?    I do miss the cool sound they make when they all grouped together:)

No Magnum here they're not attacking at all(crows do it often while nesting, even in the city) they're just curious. In summer when I take the family to the river I use to bring with me my crow call and try to call them in,just to show them to my daughters(they go crazy...)

Nice!  Magpies are very wary birds and usually fly as soon as you even look their way.

Nice shooting. I have found that if you have some old meat to put out you can shoot a lot of these birds.

280 starlings
49 various birds

I know even a carcass woud attract them but here more than magpie we have seagulls, they come in numbers and destroy everything, sometimes they drag an whole flying rat if left for a while in the field!
