will gamo gas ram fit big cat

i am looking for a new chamber for my gas ram and was wondering if it would drop in the bigcat or is the composit barrel going to hold up to the cocking lbs. of the ram. mine said whisper on the rear and i would think they had the same power plant but thought i'd ask before i buy.

Well Pyramyd puts gas rams in Whispers which is the same barrel except does not have the muzzle brake. Personally I would not want a gas ram in a light synthetic stocked air gun like your Big Cat. I am speaking of longevity of the gun. Gamo has been changing over to mostly polymer composite barrels and breech's. They have done away with good old steel and steel bushings and thrust washers. If Gamo keeps going in the direction it is then eventually most all there 1000 fps air guns will be 100% plastic.. Not good in my opinion. I would not be afraid to put a gas ram in a Gamo Hunter model. They have steel barrels and breech's. And they will last a long time... I am holding onto my Gamo's with the steel barrels and breech's.

And to do the gas conversion right you will need some tools. You will need to make a few parts.

Thanks for the input Gene...i was looking to setup a good light weight hunting rig with my gas ram and saw the big cats used everywhere for sale but if the breech is plastic then i will pass and keep my eyes open for a old school gamo shadow.

While the shooting end of the new guns are plastic, the power plants are still steel. The thrust from a piston powered by gas ram should not introduce any more stress than one launched by a spring if the gun shoots within a few fps either way. On the other hand, gas rams appear to take more effort when cocking. From that viewpoint, the plastic barrel/breech block will be subject to more fatiguing. I can see that this is where Gene is heading and agree with him.

ya i thought the polymer barrel would be a problem i just found a great deal on a used big cat and got to thinking.
