Quietest Air gun?

Greets all.
It's been a while, and I've been putting some fun times into my hunter pro -- but i've got this
itch I can't explain that I think can only reach with a new airgun

Looking for something really quite but still accurate.  power isn't all too important, but i'd like
to hit something out to 50-60yrds with some repeatability.  I'm not taking out wild boar or anything
like that..  at least not yet.

So, from reputation, I'm thinking either the Marauder or the Nitro.  I know they're two completely
different animals, but like I said, these are the two that pop up alot when looking for quiet guns.

Am wondering if anyone here has heard them side-by-side?
Is the NPSS really as quiet as they sound in the videos?  I'd prefer the Nitro (again, because I
think its quiet) -- and i like not having to pump, etc etc.  i think its cheaper too.

Thoughts?  Other suggestions?

I don't have the NPSS, but I do have the NP XL-1100, which also uses a Crosman nitro piston.  It is very quiet for a magnum springer, but certainly not shrouded-barrel PCP quiet.  If you want the least amount of noise combined with the most amount of accuracy (disregarding cost), you will want to go with a shrouded PCP like the Marauder.

I have a Remington(Crosman) NPSS. I'm really pleased with the quietness - especially since the main reason I bought it was to have something to shoot in the back yard, and not have to drive to the shooting range. My neighbors say it doesn't bother them at all, and the power is definately adequate

if pistol maybe a mac1 LD
i use mine in the city for sniping down starlins
i nailed 14 this week
from 10-55 yards
its dead quiet and spitting out 14.3's at 565
as for rifle
id say alot of springers are pretty quiet
the 48 i jst got is pretty quiet
i guess it all depends on your view of quiet

Close - only about 150 feet in either direction (nice sized woods directly behind to shoot into though).

So one thing has led to another -- crazy ride -- and now I find myself stare'n at the Disco w/TKO.
From what i've been reading, and a video or two on youtube -- and it sounds like the TKO and a Mac1 Disco
could get me as quiet as a marauder.

Two cents: I don't see how they can get much quieter than Marauder, and the accuracy is there.

I would like to have a Disco someday, and hope to have a shroud nearly as quiet. The attraction is the weight- Disco is like a feather!

But to me, Marauder raised the bar for what could be done at the price point for both accuracy and "silence". Truly an amazing bargain, moreso now than when I bought. If you're looking at PCPs you can't go wrong. And now we have a .25, AND a pistol coming... it's just not fair. I have a refund coming but now there is an oversight committee... :-(

I don't have a De-pinger on my Marauder, so it is not as quiet as it could BE. (nor am I standing downrange to hear what it really sounds like) But I think My Benjamin Discovery with TKO muzzle brake makes less noise than my Marauder.


It is what it is......With That said, I still think my Marauder is quiet enough to not need that de-pinger. Because the sound the Mrod does make doesn't even sound like a gun.


Just "Ping" and whatever you shot at is dead.


Just like on powder burners....."MuzzleBrakes" don't silence the gun, they quiet the gun and Make the sound signature different. (unrecognizable)

I depinged my m-rod, and it is much quieter then my tko'd disco. My neighbors three houses(suburbs) can hear my disco. Not sure aboutthe m-rod.

I don't know for sure which is  the quietest, but the M-rod makes no more sound then your average conversation.
Results of my own un-scientific testing with my off the shelf Radio-shack digital sound meter showed that:

Marauder depinged 65db
Marauder 67db
NPSS Nitro 73db
Beeman R-1 Laser 78db

I also noticed that the meter was bouncing around 70db when my friend and I were Talking.
And noises from my neighborhood were making it go above 67db.
I wouldn't wan't to shoot anything louder then the NPSS here in my backyard.

Does your neighbor hear the GUN.. or the Pellet hitting the target? I don't think he could hear my gun....50 yards or more you aren't gonna hear anything.




There is a pretty cool video on youtube with a guy shooting his Disco with tko muzzlebrake @ around 40 yards. pretty much all you hear down range is the whizz of the pellet, then SMACK impact.
