What's the best/easiest way to reduce power in a Shadow 1000?

I'm not into hunting and generally can't tolerate the recoil of "magnum" springers. Been thinking about another S1000, though. What would be the best way to reduce power? Is there a softer spring available? Prefer not to clip coils, etc.

Yes indeed Red. JM sells a Merlin XL spring. It is a square wire spring. It will turn your S1K into a very smooth and docile shooter. Of course you will have to do some spring guide work. Mine shoots right around 800 fps. Very easy to cock as well and very little recoil.

Well, I was looking at another Shadow Supreme in .22 on Brad's sight. Good price, too. Someone just (like really just) bought it, though. Actually, I kind of miss the Varmint Stalker I sold - same gun but in .177. Sooner or later I will come across another S1000 for cheap. They pop up from time to time. No rush. And I'm not concerned with fps. Even 800fps. Might want to tame it down to around 700 if it dampens the shot cycle some more. Of course, I understand you simply can't keep slowing them down, etc, and expect things to be smoother. Sometimes it's the opposite, no?

I just picked up a gamo hunter 440 and i would swear the action is a shadow 1000 in a wood stock. i even compared it side by side to a shadow with no difference in the action to the naked eye anyways maybe somethings different on the inside but i doubt it.

You should be able to use the Nitro17 spring and get 800s out of it... or maybe go all the way to the carbine sport, and be down in the 600s... I have shot the nitro... is twangy, but controllable. I am still convinced that it is  the same internal as the BSA comet...

They are all the same - S1000, 220, 440, Hunter, 890, etc.

Make a new top hat from nylon with a shorter head..
will lighten the traveling mass & reduce the spring pre-load..
less power , smoother and quiter...And if its still not enough
shorten the rear plastic guide spacer..the black plastic steped
thing at rear of the spring...yer don't need another spring...

If yer do go this way ..Give me a PM would take about 10mins to
spin one up for yer...

an even easier way is to leave it cocked for a few days

Not the best way to soften a gun. It will be inconsistent, as the spring will want to return to a higher level.

While on the subject of S1000 springs.  Any quick words on how the Merlin XL compares to the E3650?
Thinking about a rebuild on my .177 shadow.  I guestimate around 2000 pellets thru her over the past 4 years.
Some fool left it cocked overnight once in the first few weeks he owned it.  Doh! My bad.  lol
