NITROGEN SHOCK
« on: April 19, 2010, 01:03:10 PM »
I went to the local welding supplier to get a price on a 4500 psi cylinder.I was quoted 12 bucks a month,OK I'm cool with that.THEN he tells me 96 bucks a fill. That seems way out of line.Doing the math with a 440cft. bottle I would get around 123 full fills on the s400 before I would be Disco only for a while. Not counting the Disco fills this breaks down to $1.25 per fill or .03 cents per shot.My other option is a local dive shop can get me a 80cft tank for around $450.00 with 6 dollar fills.Problem is I already bought all the high preasure fittings to make N2 fill adapter.

I've looked for used tanks in my area,no go.I didn't price argon as I thought it would be more costly.I did a little more math and that 100.00 dollar fill would give me 5000 full power shots, not counting the 2000psi fills on my Disco.Other than portability it's not that bad of an option for me.I'll price Argon too.The bummer part of the deal is I worked for Praxair in the fill docks while I went to college.Besides I've already dropped 160.00 in stainless steel fittings to make the fill set up for the n2.

Seems awfully high, got any other sources around?  I live in the sticks, and my costs were quite a bit lower.  Tank rent was $11/mo. or $80/yr., gas was about $60.  In addition to argon, check the cost of plain compressed air.  In my case, N2 was cheaper, but air might be less for you.  BTW, each cylinder lasted me a good 6 months, and that was shooting multiple high volume guns a LOT.  You might also want to check the cost of an annual lease on the cylinder, instead of month to month.  Good luck.

Well I got a 444 cu.ft. 4500psi tank for 12 dollars a month and 62 dollars a fill. That should keep me from pumping for quite some time.I ordered all my fittings and adapters for about 160 bucks so now all I'm waiting for is a hose and a fostner fitting and I'm set.Woo Hooo bulk fill for about 225.00 and monthly rental.I'm not so shocked now.If any body is interested in my set up and parts list I'll post the info when it's up and running.

The 96 dollars was the quote without an account.I only checked with Praxair because my father retired from there.Funny after I set up the account the price dropped by about 40%.In my area AirGas gets their product from Praxair. We have 3 plants in the area.I'm all set up and filled my guns today................I had leaks in my fittings even with teflon tape at about 2200psi,so I took it all back apart and used a epoxy thread sealer.

Joe,

I wanna know all the details about your nitrogen tank procurement! I have a Marauder .25 on order and think it is the way I'm going to go if possible. I do have Praxair in my small town but not Airgas.

Do you transport the tank to them for fill (or exchange) or do they have to make a housecall to you?

What other parts and fittings did you have to get and what did they cost?

Thanks!
