Can't count that high
« on: April 19, 2010, 02:42:45 PM »
Grackles are coming in to our bird feeder area. I shoot a few and they fly off but come back. 5 alone today. They leave the feedr and land in trees right at 30 yards away. I nail one and as he falls the rest usuall fly away, sometimes landing in a tree about 50 yards from where I sit with the Blizzard. Tnen I nail one of them there. (probably 7 out of 10 shots for now) Then they leave only to return a few hours later.

Five today as I said and a few more the day before and a few each day for the week before. Looks like it will go on for awhile.

Blackbirds in the cattail sloughs are 15-50 yards and pretty regular. Eleven today at various distances as I went to town and back. Will drive by and see them, slow down and stop. Those that stay are the Chosen Few. I nail one and the rest usually fly away. Next slough or two, more of them. The neighbors are glad to see me nailing them as taking one now means fewer to decimate sunflower crops later in the season.

Then the ground squirrils and gophers. The church cemetary a few miles up the road and a few neighbors yards and grain bin areas get visited. Seven of them this week so far have taken the dirt nap.

Now am watching a few badger holed dug too near and directly in the roads. (all dirt & gravel where we live, a few miles to pavement) When I see one I will try and nail it. Their holes are big and can knock vehicles out of alignment and in the rain they can wash out and break suspension pieces. So, I am being a good citizen... doing a Public Service. Maybe I can get the county to buy me more pellets or a new rifle?  ;-)

With all the shooting done on the way to and from other stuff I don't really keep count other than for a day or two. Then it is pop a few more. Now with the new to us 350 magnum in .22 and a .177 Marauder on the way will have a few more toys to sight in and start working with.

Try keeping tabs in your signature line at the bottom of your posts.  Click on the white "Control Panel" on the grey background.  You will have to scroll down to the large, white box to type info.  You can type in what ever you want.  Maybe separate them out like XX Grackles, XX blackbirds, XX ground squirrels, etc.  WadeS and I, as well as others, have done that.  Look on my signature line if you want to see what it looks like.

WadeS and I are shooting for 1000 air rifle kills in calander year 2010.  We're each 400+ now.
