It had the making's for a beautiful day so I loaded up the Benji NP and headed for some private hunting grounds that I hadn't hunted since early last fall. The plan was to get into some G-hog's with her so I was on location and in my old hide by 7:30am with the Trail NP locked and loaded. I had scouted out the area the day before and had noticed fresh piles of dirt next to the G-hog hole's which told me that they were active. About two hours had passed without any movement from the den's but out of the corner of my eye I caught movement in the tree's to the side of me. My hide sits just inside the tree's with the wood's behind and to the sides of me and the field out in front. The Squirrels have had a free run of the wood's since last fall and I had left my private hunting grounds alone, give the area time to restock for spring hunting.

This nutter was moving from limb to limb without a care in the world but then must have noticed the glint from my glass but it was to late. He turned to get a better look at the intruder then gave several twitch's of his tail but the cross hairs were already planted on the side of his fusebox and the FTS was sent away. The sound of a solid hit was followed by the nutter dropping stone dead from the limb and hitting the ground without a twitch. I reloaded and didn't bother to retrieve him he was down and I was still on the hunt for a G-hog. Three more hours had passed without a a single G-hog showing itself so I decided to call it a morning and headed over to retrieve my Squirrel harvest. I had dropped this guy at just under 23yrd's and with the NP's first Fox Squirrel under her belt I stowed him in the game bag and headed out. I placed some twig's on the den hole's to keep tab's on the active hole's and I will be back tonight, NP's first Night Patrol hunt.
