Effective range of RWS 850 in .22

The bird pests around my place are usually within the 25 to 35 yard range and pretty easily taken with my 850. However, it seems that they may have some sort of learning curve and are holding back farther than usual nowadays. Whatever the reason, they have become scattered. So, the question is - what distance can I reasonably expect to be able to shoot accurately with the 850? The birds in question are medium to small size.

I don't own an 850 but I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to take out pest birds out to 40 yards with that shooter.  With C02, as you know, temperature has a lot to do with trajectory but on a good C02 day I would say 40 yards wouldn't be any problem at all......  I'm sure some 850 owners will chime in and give us the benefit of their personal experience...

with birds if you can hit em i say your in range
i took a starling with my P1 at 26 yards the other day it was a luck shot lol but i dropped him

Bird wings break easily adn a well placed shot will do it every time. It might take a 2nd shot at longer ranges but once the wing is broken they are not leaveing. Head shots are HARD on a bird. Heads are small and move alot. Practice alot with your gun and  figure out your abilities. I am up to shooting trainer golf balls at 65 yards with my 350. I am taking the plumbers putty down with me next time I shoot to see penetration at 45 and beyond. I figure if I can hit and it penetrates at least an inch into plumbers putty I am good to shoot at that distance. JMHO.
