Oh, no...What happened!
« on: April 28, 2010, 01:27:03 PM »
I hadn't bought a gun since January. Good thing because I then lost my job in February. So I start getting more serious about the business I was thinking of building, and I post some ads for test rifles that will beat up scopes...and I get a flurry of responses with every rifle I had on a list of scope killers. One-by-one I can't refuse. I think I am committing to 3 or 4 rifles TODAY! I directly have all you to blame for falling off the wagon. You all went out of your way to help me build a list of rifles that would kill scopes, and then went and offered them to me at OBSCENE prices. Darn you all for being so NICE! Now if you wouldn't mind writing a note to my wife to explain the idea of business expenses ;-)

GTA is AWESOME.

The B21 showed up today.
I paid for the Winchester 1000x.
I accepted a deal on a Walther Hunter Falcon, and will be paying as soon as I know where.
And finally accepted another deal on a Mendoza 2800 but have to get a money order...

$250 for 4 rifles. But now these are a business expense... And 3 of 4 were rifles I wanted for scope testing... but Oh, my... 4 rifles??

The conversation about the guns Should start with your the woman and IM THE MAN! Better stretch first though dont want to pull anything when your running for the door.

If things get tooo crazy I have a boat with a cabin on it. Its in a nice garage that doubles as a 30 ft range. My other garage with the 35 ft range turned into a smoke pit for the boss. The cabin is good enough for a night or to. Ive slept there once or twice and smiled the whole night while dreaming of spectacular hip shots and 500 lb sharks. lol

Bill, that's such a sensible response I may have to actually forward to the Ms.

dj, "IM THE MAN!" really? That work for you, or is that why you spent the time on the boat?

I am lucky in the sense that in the business I am in I need cameras to photograph product, guns to rid product of pest and knives to check product for pest and disease.

JWH, I know that feeling. I teach photography so all my photo equipment is a business expense. I teach image editing, so my computer equipment is a business expense. I am starting the scope sales up, so now my rifles, scopes and ammo are all for testing purposes for business. I think I could squeeze some tools in there legally. If I started trying to sell the beer I make, I think I could live virtually IN my business. I've got to figure out how to get paid for watching baseball games or listening to them on the radio... Then I'll be all set.

I normally only update PS every other release. I'm on CS 4 now. Anything in CS5 that is must have?

Depends on what you use PS for. With every other release I think you are more than fine. If you just do image editing, I don't think there is any real reason to upgrade to CS5. The puppet warp thing and context sensitive mumbo-jumbo...I'll likely never use it myself. I think all the practical tools are already in the program. I teach people not even to look at probably 80% of the toys...um, tools. What do you do in PS? I happen to know a lot about it. I've written 8 books...

I took a quick look around in the gallery and there are some neat shots. A lot of them seem a little soft. I don't use pbase, so i don't know if the softness might be part of the pbase engine goofing around with your uploads... Or if it is in the original captures. Do you use a tripod? I see for the birding shots you are using a longer lens, and a tripod will be critical there. However, some of the settings are not what I might expect. Birds are jittery, so I'd almost always go with a faster shutter and a broader aperture. It'll help freeze movement. One image IMG_1182-Edit.jpg could use some minor cropping. I think the image is good, but is the bird in the fore-ground indeed a bit soft? Let me know what you think about those sharpness issues... As I can't tell completely what it is without knowing more about your originals.

Doc,

All you would have to do is to show that many of your customers are Baseball fans, and that it was in the best interest of your company to take your best customers to the game. And to be aware of the goings on of the other games so that you could speak to the knowledgeably about the subject to your other customers !

A friend of mine takes his clients to the Gun Club, which also has a Bar ! And he is able to deduct his membership, shooting, drinking and time there. He also depreciated his guns ! Note: Only take clients that you like, and enjoy spending time with. :o Or you may be in for a short visit at the range, and a long visit at the bar. :D

Just remember, you must show a profit to make these deductions ! No Taxable Profit, No Deductions 8)
