Todays take.
« on: May 04, 2010, 02:43:28 PM »
Well a few of my GTA brothers told me it was ok to keep posting pictures of everyday run of the mill photos, so with that said here are today’s. I knew that if I did get a chance to get a hunt in today it would be a short one, so planning ahead I put the 2 guns in the truck this morning before heading of to work. That way I could go straight to the dairy without having to stop at home first. I took the Remington Summit and the 350 Feuerkraft, but today I reverted to my old reliable and used the 350 for the bulk of the shooting. The Brown headed cow birds have arrived in here in great numbers and they were the dominant species at the dairy today. Now these birds aren’t as big and Starlings, Red winged blackbirds, or Yellow headed blackbirds, so connecting on these little birds really gives you a confidence boost. Most of today’s shots were between 40 and 50 yards, and after hunting the farm so much while using my range finder I’ve got most on the distances committed to memory. I did make two shots I was proud off, the first was an off hand 40 yard shot on a black bird that ended up taking him right in the bean pan, not my aiming point but I’ll take it. The second shot was the big Yellow headed cowbird that I specifically targeted and connected on form about 50 yards.

I added a picture of an accidental head shot I made a few days ago. While using the decoys I had one bird come in and land right behind one of the decoys. I waited and waited for him to clear it but he had nice little pile of corn and saw no reason to change locations. Occasionally he would look up and offer up his head over the decoy. I decided the next time he did I would try to sneak a pellet over the decoy. He looked up again, I sent the shot and heard the pellet strike plastic, and it did knock the decoy all the way across the feedlot.

Nice Dave. That decoy doesn't look too bad considering it took a direct hit. It's a really good thing the rest of your targets are not that tough.

I'd like to say that's the first decoy I've ever shot but that would be a lie. More than once I've had a flock of teal buzz the decoys and me stand up and spread lead all over my dekes. But I'm also sure I'm not the only waterfowler that has done that.

Man you are making me want one of those 350 compacts!  Okay it is now third in line behind the Cometa, R-9, and THEN a 350 compact :D

BTW do you have any underlever guns?  I've fallen in love with my Jaymo TF-99.  It is just so easy to shoot and accurate.  I've got to find it a nicer scope for certain.  I may just move the scope from my 350 off of it and get it a higher X scope for longer range shooting.

Great shooting, especially that head shot on the decoy. And yes I have shot a decoy as well but it was as you said with a shotgun.

More great shooting and pic's bro and that's a line up of suspects there too. :) Decoys are fair game if they look at you wrong hehehe. Ask Gene about his bird decoy that I whacked down in S.C :o  lol. I was on his back deck having my morning Java and spotted this Dove that was on a limb out a ways in his backyard. I had the trusty Trail NP and didn't waste anytime  shouldering her and locking the cross hairs on it. WHACK! but this bird just wobbled  lol. What caught my eye was that the limb that it was on was moving in a way that got me thinking that the bird had just landed, just the slight wind moving it... sorry brother Gene. :o  :)  :0 Ed
