New project arrived (pic's)
« on: May 05, 2010, 08:06:33 AM »
My project Hunter 220 refurb' arrived and I've got a question for the experts. But first, the gun is in good condition, it's very smooth when cocking and firing except for the Gamo spring buzz. The trigger is the best stock Gamo I've had but it's going to go. Stock is nice except for a couple of very small marks you have to look for carefully. My question is, how old is this rifle? Can anyone tell from serial number on the gun? The one that has the 98 in the code is the new to me one the 04 code is from the other 220 I have. The only other difference between the two is the scope groves on the compression tube. The ones  with the 98 in the code are 5.25 inches long and there is a hole that is threaded that could be for a scope stop. The other one, with the 04 in the code has 6.50 inch long groves and no hole drilled. What do you all think? Do I have a antique?

So if what you guy's think is right the first two numbers are the DOM I wonder what the last two numbers mean? On the first one I got both the first two and last two numbers are 04 but on this latest one the last two are 98. 1998? Or some other part of a code? Just checked my Hunter Elite, code is 04-1C-XXXX-07 the 07 on the end could mean 2007 I bought the Elite 7/07. I can't believe Gamo had a 12 year old rifle to refurb laying around. At least I hope not.

yup that would be what i was thinking and also there is a magic year out there where gamo started etching there s/n on the gun instead of printing.

This is the number on my 220. I have had it for about 12 years.

04-1C-010110-98

Looks like they all start with 04-1C- , that could be the model designation. The next 6 digits are all different; could that be the serial number ? And the last 2 numbers year of manufacture ? Just a guess.  :)

Well I did check the stock and no date or any other markings but I have to thank you, I did spot a crack that is just starting. I will force some epoxy in there to stabilize it. What kind of inventory control is this? 12 years old? As far as I can tell Gamo only offers a one year limited warranty so it probably isn't anything they got back recently. Although I don't have a chrony I noticed it has no where the power my other one does. I wonder if it might be a 12 fpe from Canada or else where? Oh well all new internals and lubes are on the way so it will be all well after a update with a tune.

HEY you got a steel barrell at least & a nice older gun? try a lite cross hatch cut on crack & then epoxy, it will be a stronger fix for you.
