Musical Scopes?

Any of you swap your scopes around?  I got a new Barska scope for my 350M which caused a domino effect of me moving scopes to other guns.  The Leapers 3 x 9 rubberized scope got shifted to the TF 99. The Tasco scope that was on that gun got shifted to the Ruger Airhawk since for some reason I couldn't adjust the Leapers scope far enough to the right on the Hawk.  

Anyway all of the guns and scopes are happy and content.   :p

When I first got my 350 I was having issues to with it.  So I moved almost every scope I had on and off of it trying to figure out the deal.  In the end the scope I bought for it ended up on my Whisper where it to this day.  I'm trying to get the guns all settled down for my upcoming trip to Kansas to hunt Prairie Dogs.  The 350 for certain is getting the nod, and maybe the TF 99 over the others.  It is just deadly accurate and probably easier to cock while lying on the ground.  

Moving scopes is kinda fun.  Almost like getting a new gun (okay that was insane, but it is still neat).

I am surprised that a Barska would hold up on a springer.. I tend to buy a scope that fits my eyes and put them on the guns and leave them. I know many people cannot afford to do that but I hate moving scope.. Once they are on a gun I generally leave them there.

Me too, I try not to move scopes around....just because I don't want to risk stripping the heads of the screws/bolts.

Well the Barska may not hold up.  Especially since it is on the 350!  My 350 is so worn in now though that it doesn't seem to have that much recoil.  We'll see, I didn't pay that much for it anyway.    It is a 3 x 12.

I've had no troubles with my Barska 3-12X50 scope, same scope as Stan. It's been on the Gamo Maxima .22 for over a year without any major adjustments! The Maxima is an 18 fpt shooter with a bit of a kick, not as much as a magnum shooter but enough to draw blood above the eye if you are fool enough to put your eye too close to the scope!! (A spanish friend of mine did this even after I repeatedly told him not to put his eye on the scope. I suppose it was lost in translation!!!)

My 350M has been happy and content with a leapers 3-9x50AO for nearly 2years now:) I normally only replaced my AG scopes if it breaks and then I get wild and will spend more than i should ) with the theory of  I wont have to fix that again lol:) I have also just bought scopes with no gun in mind, with the theory/justification that I will need to buy a gun.

Do I move scopes around?   Yes and No.   Mainly as upgrades though.   Like Gene said, finding the best scope to fit my eyes.

Randy, too much time on your hands ... you need a hobby !!!  


Each of my scoped guns was bought for a certain type of hunting. The scopes are type/size best suited for that use. Once sighted-in, unless I have a problem with that scope, it's there for life.


Plus, Locktite's gotten expensive, so that kinda sours the music !!!

I just did the same thing last week. I got a center point 4-16X 40 AO from wally world for the 350. And just like dominos all the scopes shifted to the right. The 3-9 X 32 that came with the 350 slid to the hunter so I could have a 3-9 on it instead of the 4x32 that was on it. The one from the hunter went on the big cat so I could do away with the stock gamo 3-9 scope. Now my daughter is stoked she has an illuminated reticle mil dot scope like daddy does. The center point is goo so far. Ive put about 60-70 rounds through it sofar. 16 x magnification gives about a 4 in fov at 15 yards and it is precise placement.  I like that. I also found out I could actually fit a 50 mm on my 350! bad thing is now its giving me the itch to return the center point and order the leapers 6-24 x50 ao. This is a terrible hobby! lol

Randy, I can honestly say I'm guilty of the same thing. I tend to rate my guns as far as value and shootability. The best get the best. I bought a newAG that had no glass. I ran into a deal and purchased a new sidewheel scope. Decided to mountthat oneon my SS and juggled all of my remaining glass accordingly.

Now all guns have benefited from the refitting.

You mean like you only have one gun and it has your only scope?  If that is the case you aren't an addict like the rest of us!  

Since I've stopped buying powder burners for the time being, it is time to put some of my other hobbies on Ebay and start saving up for another air gun!

Been there, done that :-).  In my case, it's frequently a case of new rifles getting old scopes, I occasionally do what I just recently did, replace my entire collection.  Sold or traded off all my PCP's and got some nice springers again.  Even then I had to try different combos of rifle and scope, and I may still do some swapping around :-).  Later.

I'm like several others here..I don't switch scopes around. I find a specific scope for a specific rifle and there it stays.

Hey Andy/Truman....glad that the Barska Prosport 4X12-55mm AO is holding up on your Maxima. I originally bought mine and had it on the Gamo Viper for about 30 shots.....then read from a few members here that it might not be Air Gun rated....so I quickly swapped it over to a PCP; an Air Arms S410SL. The AA`s Bushnell Banner 3X9-40mm IR went on the Viper.

Btw, that`s probably the only swap I did with scopes....
