Used or new scope
« on: May 12, 2010, 04:39:58 PM »
Used Air Force 4-15x50AO scope or brand new Leapers 5th Gen 4-16x50AO Rifle Scope?

The price difference is about $20. Is one actually better or worse than the other? Would go on a Marauder if I get one of them.

I've heard less than great things about the Air Force scopes, but then, I also had really lousy luck with Leapers scopes :-).  Do you have to have the 50mm objective?  If not, hit your local WalMart for the 4-16x40 Center Point.  At $70, it's a hell of a bang for the buck.  And the smaller front objective will allow medium rings, lower is (almost) always better IMO.  If you don't have a local WalMart, let me know, I'd be happy to pick one up and mail it to you.  Later.

Just a warning Joshua,

I ounce bought a used scope from a fellow air gunner, that was supposed to be lightly used and in new condition ! I was in like new shape, and cost me $40.00 less than a new scope, but when I mounted it some days latter, I could not make adjustments to the cross hairs. :0

So I learned my lesson, no more used scopes !!!! Even at 40% off, I suffered a 60% loss !

Go for NEW, and you have a full Warranty !

That`s my kind of thinking also Gene.  Never know how a used scope have been abused...and with a new one at least there`s warranty if it breaks in a year or more (And some brands are warrantied for life).

Hey Jason,

I have six Wally Worlds within 15 miles of me, and not a pellet or scope between them. Let alone a B.B. Gun ! :0

nEW jERKEY is part of the U.S.S.R., and the citizens here can not be trusted with such dangerous contraband ! They may shoot an eye out ! :o

I have 4..  I've only been able to find scopes by the end caps near the camping stuff and the black powder..  Nothing but crap for airguns, besides the big cats and some crosman stuff.  A few selection of pellets, safety glasses, pellet pouches, etc..  Now if I wanted a fully automatic metal $150 soft air gun, I'd be in heaven!

I own a airforce 4-16x50 and they are very clear. i had it on a rws 48.22 for 8 months and held on great now i have it on hold waiting for a fusion.22 to put it on that airrifle .I paid 80.00 brand new when Kevin Bartel of impact airguns decided to retire, now i see them for 142.00 but well worth it .At 50 yds u could catch your prey clearly.Between that one and my nikko stirling nighteater 4-16x44 i couldnt be happier i paid 80.00 also from joe/cuz and the same one i have seen for 202.00 from straight shooters ansd other dealers as well .xisco scopes are also decent

I can not say much for the air force scope for i don't own one but as for leapers some people love them but as for the four i own all have the same problem the crosshairs are not square with the turrets and looks cocked to the side when crosshairs are lined up with the rifle but they all are holding zero without a problem.

Yes, there is such a thing as a person without a local WalMart. 90 miles away... same as McDonalds.
