3 Long ones

Left work just a little bit early today so I stopped by the dairy just to see if the action was as good as it was the other day. I wasn’t disappointed to say the least. My hunt was cut short due to the fact that one of the bulls had knocked down a gate and found his way into a pen with some cows and a few younger bulls. Well boys will be boys and all the bulls came together to do battle. It took some time but we did get everyone back to the correct pens. But the down side was once the younger bulls were all stirred they became some what aggressive, I knocked two Yellow heads down in one of the bull pens but was unable to retrieve them because they were in no mood for visitors coming near their cows.

I went over the other side of the road to do a little shooting off the corn pile away from the love sick bulls. I had various opportunities at the usual targets and managed to connect on a few. But the 3 that I’m most proud of are the ones in the picture. Each one of these birds was taken at 67 yards with the 350 Feuerkraft Pro Compact. It took a few shots to get dialed in at that range but after about 3 shots I scored on the first Cowbird, I remembered the holdover and when the next bird landed in the same spot I gave him the same holdover and watched in amazement as he hit the ground. I ranged the post 3 times and each time it came back at 67 yards. Not believing my 2 long shots in a row I was just about to go retrieve them when the Yellow head landed on the same pole. Settle the gun across the hood of the truck, put the crosshairs over his head just like the first two and sent the pellet. Same result, a very very impressive sounding thud and he just went straight to the ground. I just love the sound of that CPHP striking feathers and flesh at that range. I’m planning on running each of the birds under the metal detector to see if I can retrieve a pellet. I’ve yet to have one stay in a bird at any range.

Nice Shootin' Dave! You are making some pretty impressive shots with that gun. The more I hear you talk about that gun, the more I want one.

No joke.  That 350 seems to be a killer with Furseeker behind the wheel seeking feathers!!!!  (and lots of them)

Nice shooting!!!  What sort of velicities are you getting?  How is the hold sensitivity?  Is it tuned?

Thanks guys, Doug the 350 is shooting CPHPs at just under 800fps the last time I chronographed it. I suspect that is a little low due to a low breach seal issue. Several posts ago I think it was Harry that gave me some ideas on how to fix the breach seal issue. The gun has been lube tuned only. I’ve had it apart and checked over all the parts, the piston seal was in good shape, and the spring was straight. I squared and polished the spring ends and polished hardened washers, lubed everything up and but it back together. As a few folks on this forum told me it would be, it was dry as a bone coming from the factory. As far as hold sensitivity goes this gun seems to not care where or how it’s held. It truly is one of the most accurate spring guns I’ve ever owned.

Back to the breach seal for just a minute, a buddy of mine just recently purchased a 350 Feuerkraft Pro Compact just like mine. He stopped by last night to pick up my chronograph to do some testing. I just got of the phone with him and he said that using Napier Power Hunters he was only getting about 720 fps out of his. He noticed that his breach seal was flush or possibly even a little negative. He removed the breach seal and shim; he added a little tape to his shim and put all parts back together. After making these minor adjustments he told me he is now getting 850 plus fps. I probably should take some time to do a little work on mine, but is seems to be getting the job done now.
