Shadow Block Pivot question
« on: May 17, 2010, 08:12:13 AM »
I am getting ready to tune my Gamo Shadow 1000 (first I built a compressor) and the pivot bolt / screw does not unscrew with normal pressure. Is this truly a screw and I just needed to use a brake bar or is it a bolt and/or left hand thread…etc?
First time to work on an air gun.

Hi DEJ-Air, a Big Welcome to the GTA forum and family.

The Gamos use a Torx bolt head and I`ve read that the pivot bolt is really on tight.  Also that the Torx head can strip pretty easily.  I`ve tried to remove mine from a Big Cat to add shims (There`s abit of barrel sway)....but it won`t budge....so I left it as it is.

Some other airgunners at GTA have removed that bolt....maybe they`ll chime in later to help you out.

Btw, you don`t really need to remove that bolt to give your Shadow a tune.....

(only because I just disassembled mine yeserday I can say)
On my S1K, the screw is indeed a big flat head slotted screw.
VERY tight, but nothing else unusual or unique.
It took my biggest screwdriver, a friend holding it in place, and a grunt or two, to get it to break loose.
I was careful not to jack up the slot, but some of the black paint did chip around the blade slot.
The only torx or the ones holding the stock on....to my knowledge.
Hope that's of some help.

By the way, I too just built a spring compressor and will be posting pics soon.  (Combo of metal/wood)

Once again, many thanks go out to forum members for all their invaluable knowledge and input.

Welcome to the GTA FAMILY sir happy to have you aboard. As the others mentioned those can be some tough one's to remove but the shooter can be tuned without removing the barrel and block unless your looking to shim it up. Ed

As the others have said,   " Unless you have a problem with the barrel and or the pivot , you don't need to remove the Torx bolt".   It can be extremely difficult to remove,  not impossible,  just difficult.    If all you want to do is a " Tune" you do not need to remove the barrel.    I read somewhere that a gentleman had good results removing the bolt after he had put the AG in a deep freezer for several hours.   Might be worth a try if you are determined.

Welcome to the party.
Gentleman of Fortune.

The Gamo Shadow 1000 should not have a Torqx bolt but rather a standard screw driver slot. The bolt threads are chemically adhered but many can be removed. Most though are very tough to loosen and must be heated to break the bond and may need to use an impact driver to loosen it. On the later Gamo's with the poly block, you can once in a great while break them loose but you cannot heat them as the poly will melt before the bond is broken.

Thank you very much for all of your responses.
I have just attempted to remove the bolt using a 10” crescent on a ¼” x 3/8” Pachmayr flat head that properly fitting the screw slot and promptly broke the tip.
I don’t think I’ll try the torch and I don’t have a torque wrench (yet).
OK …
Now to see if I can remove the rod/trigger/spring without removing the barrel.

Or... Maybe I'll wait until I buy a torque wrench?
What do you think?

This is turning into quit the project…

I meant to say “quite the project”- Freudian slip ?
By the way I have the GRT-II trigger (love it),  and that’s what started all this interest in improvement…

Torque wrench will not make a diff.& cocking arm stay's on barrell to,it'll just come out of breech area slot(break barrell, arm slide's,wiggle it out of slot),Friend not being smarta$$ or any thing, but a little more research might be in order to help ya along, don't want to see you get hurt or ruin your gun?

Update on pivot block

I first must correct and atone for the error of mental transmigration upon using the term “Torque Wrench”. I had a mental picture of the correctly referred to “Hand-held Impact Driver” but when typing my missive the application of torque was foremost in my mind.
I shall be more cautious in my wording in future communiqué.

Now then, having acquired and applied said tool, happiness is a cleanly removed pivot block and the project continues…
