Taurus PT709
« on: May 17, 2010, 01:07:57 PM »

Finished my CCW class and looking at a Taurus PT709 slim. I am also considering the PT140 or the PT145. Has anyone had any experience with any of these, especially the 709? I really like this pistol but if you know of problems, please let me know.

Thanks,

Taurus products are OK.   If you can find a gun shop with a range , and they will let you shoot before you buy, consider buying it there.    Saves hassle.   If you buy it first and  then find out either you don't like it or it won't function properly you are pretty much stuck with the handgun.     Really, the main thing I would look for is a good holster that fits the pistol  properly.     I hate buying a pistol and can't get a decent holster for it.

And I have actually owned Taurus pistols in the past.   Just not a 709 Slim.

GREAT TO HEAR BRO. well done (told ya it was easy) I have shot the new pt709 nice gun I saw or felt no negative's to it,I own 2 pt145's very good gun's for price, nice 10 shot cap. ,easy to conceal & care well, one had a jamming problem I could not fix but life time warr. & it was back in about 2 or 3 week's as I remember(been a while),not a target gun for sure but able to make body shot's at 25 or so & recoil no worse than any other small .45's maybe even a little less felt due to polymer frame, trigger's not great but O.K. & you can restrike a hard primer if needed(a plus to me)so I guess over all PT's are good gun's. REMEMBER a good holster & belt is a must have item.go with quality& practice till it's second nature in drawing.(Take with you your purse, sandel's & cloak & if you have a second cloak sell it & buy a sword LUKE:22)

Jay, it was good speaking with you.  The 709 had some problems with ejecting and jams. Some have had no problems at all and some from round one. Most shot at least 150 to 200 rounds before the problems started. The culprite is believed to be hot reloads for one and the extraction pin. Taurus has come out with a new pin for this and it seems to have resolved the issues from what I am reading. Overall, everyone loves this little gun. It feels great in my hand. I'm going to try and rent/test fire one next to the pt140 and see how it feels in action. Ill let you know what I think of it. By the way, here are a couple links I found on the problem and solution. There is plenty of info on it out there but I wanted to hear from the family here.

That is a good idea, just check both out & see which one YOU like fit of in hand most,I read the post & like you said I'm sure they have fixed it now,I just like big slow moveing bullet's or big fast one's LOL(I like crushing power)& talk real sweet to your lady & take a look at a ROBAR 9mm,size of larger .25,hand made & price match's that, also smith just came out with a 2 3/4" J frame .38(most are 1 7/8) that is a perfect carry gun,I was just about to have a custom pistol made with all the spec.'s they built in it ,kind of glad now I can afford 2 of them. You take care & let me know what you get.
