Cancer , a terrible diease , but there's hope.
« on: May 02, 2007, 03:08:00 PM »
A good friend of my wife died of breast cancer about 5 years ago. Since then she has become active in "Relay For Life" an organization that raises money for the American Cancer Society. Kathy, my wife has been the leader of a group of women for our church who call themselves the  "firecrackers of faith" . Every year they raise money toward a goal they set and walk in the relay all night. last year they raised over $2000. and this year they set a goal of $3000 and have already  collected over $3500 for the relay this Friday and Saturday. Last year I walked until midnight and went home . of course Kathy continued the relay all night until 7 am. This year I will stay with her all night and will help them be a little more comfortable by providing a camp set up to allow some sleep time in shifts during the night. The walk has taken on a new meaning this year as my wife's older sister was diagnosed with lung cancer 2 weeks ago. But with fund raisers like this and others there is hope , The number of  deaths  due to cancer have declined the last 2 years. We're making a difference. Please get involved and/or donate .   kirby

Yes, the relay for life is a good program. My wife has been an organizer and has participated in it for a number of years now. It was a big thing in the past when she was the executive administrator to the regional VP and now, having the same position at Verizon Wireless, she is very instrumental is it's promotion.
