RWS 48 accuracy issues

Okay, so this goes along with my Frustrated Hunter post in the Hunting gate.  I missed a few fairly easy shots on some grackles yesterday and I finally figured out what the problem is....or at least I think I have.  So I go to shoot the 48 inside at 10 yards because I had previously been shooting outdoors at 25 yards.  So just to see what kind of group I would get I put the AO on 10 yards and sent a few pellets into the trap.  The first four pellets went into the same hole.  Then the next pellet missed that hole low and left by about two inches.  The difference was that one pellet fit very loosely into the breach.  The first four all fit rather tightly.  Is this normal for a gun to be pellet size picky?  Is there a pellet out there that is consistently the same diameter?  I have been shooting CPHP's by the way.

That is a big part of why I don't shoot those pellets. Had the same issues. I shoot jsb pellets in all my guns. I've found domed pellets to be the most accurate and jsb shoot the best out of my guns. Try rws superdomes jsb and h&n. Sure one of them will work well. H&n are a close 2nd for me.

Tyler, I have a Diana rws52 .177 similar to the Diana rws48 and it loves the Beeman FTS,  if I hold my tongue just right it does 1/4" at 30yds .  I have spent hours testing various pellets, this random flyer issue is not uncommon, I have found that sorting pellets by weight does help.  I would say that the dome pellets do best in my 52  CP's 10.5gr, jsb's and  H&N now have one like the beeman FTS,  I have ordered some from PA so will try them out soon. One exception is the meisterkugeln wad cutter  8.2gr if shooting at 10M works well in mine. IMO the pellets should be snug fit and not loose for best accuracy. Tony.

I have a Diana 48 and it likes JSB 8.4 gr, RWS 8.3 gr, and Air Arms 8.44 grain pellets (all are domed pellets). The JSB;s are the best, However, I can use the other two brands with confidence. The crosman pellets are fun to plink with, but I will not use them when accuracy is inportant.

It's a .22.  I have tried some JSB heavies so I guess its about time to open the tin of jumbo express's. and maybe even the predators.  But thanks guys.  I will definitely try out the H&N and RWS pellets

Have you opened up the gun to check the piston seal?

No I have not opened it up. Honestly I don't have the first idea of how to do that lol. But it shoots at around 19 ft/lbs if that helps anything

well the reason I ask is if the seal has some groves or cuts in it or just a bad fit it may cause accuracy problems!

I see what you're saying. I honestly think it's just the pellet size because
when all the pellets fit in the barrel snugly I stack pellets at any distance.

I understand your thinking on this but my 48 .22cal some of the most accurate pellets I shoot fit lose in the breech but unbelivably accurate at 100yds so that my not be the problem, have you tried the Crosman copper heads in it? they shoot really good out of mine!

Got get yourself some H&N FTT You won't regret it. In 5.50 & 5.51
Those CPHP that come in a tin are so incredibly inconsistent in size I am shocked they work in anything well

I agree with the H&N FTT recommendation. They come in 5.53 to 5.55 mm head sizes and are very consistent.

is this the gun i sold you?
if so
the seals are good as i disassembled and lubed her up and got it shooting good
and i used Crosman Supermagnums that were all washed and weigh sorted
but i did notice it would throw a flyer if it was a loose fitting pellet sometimes
the poly mags were pretty good out of it also

Josh-  yea it's the gun I bought from you. I know you said you lubed it an I was doubtful that there was anything wrong with the seal.
