POI mystery..why not only up and down change?
« on: May 21, 2010, 07:33:07 AM »
You would think pellets in varying styles would change their POI higher and lower whether they are lighter or heavier. i cant figureout why the change sometimes effects up and down with left or rightmovement at the same time??

Try to consider the effect of different pellet rotation while inside the bore, Sir. Different pellet geometry, different way to affect the flight of the pellet after the rifling makes it effect on the rotation of the pellet.

Also... alot has to do with barrel/gun vibration.  Different ammo imparts different vibration characteristics to the barrel.

Plus, the barrels are not as uniform as you would think they are. Minute differances (production tollerances) in metal thickness, metal density, heat treatment, tooling wear, all  add variables to how a barrel and action will preform and...  if the barrel will only change vibrations in a vertical plain - not always.

That's also  why two guns of the same model can shoot to very differant POI using pellets out of the same tin.
