NP takes a hopper
« on: May 22, 2010, 01:08:51 AM »
I made a late start of it last night for night patrol but by 12:30am I got rained out so I called it a evening and would go after the critters this morning. I was back on the private land by 6:30am this morning and set up in a hide ready for any edible critter to show itself. It was going on 8:00 when I spotted something out in the field and knew exactly what it was by it's movement. I put the glass of the NP on em to get a better look and there he was just sitting proud out in the field and with a quick yardage guess hehe I cut loose with a FTS. With a solid hit he dropped right out of sight so I crawled out of the hide and headed for the harvest counting some yards along the way.  I dropped him at 36yrds and the FTS found it's mark so snagged him up and headed back to the hide to place him in the game bag. I hung for another hour just to take in the fresh air that the rain bring's in then decided to call it a morning. I had my harvest for the day and will try a early evening hunt to hopefully score a G-hog. Ed

Thank you kindly brothers and I was getting kinda worried about bunnies. :o Last year there were bunnies everywhere around my place and at my hunting grounds but this year so far I've only spotted about a dozen. Last week when I was up on the hunting grounds I spotted two Hawk's sitting in the tree's at the woodline watching the field's, talk about some tough competition hehe. Ed

Hey, Ed. Do you ever use predator pellets in your Trail NP?  If so, how accurate are they in your gun?

I've tried the Pred's in her but sadly she doesn't want to play nice with them. :0 She's an exception to most of my shooters who love the Pred's but she loves the FTP and that's what I'll feed her. Ed

That's ok, Ed.  Looks like the FTS pellets are working just fine for you.  Tom

Great shot on that wabbit Ed!  I could polish one of them off by myself but you can share it with the Mrs.. hehe :)

Yeah hawks are very bad news for someone who wants to have rabbits around for hunting, eating, etc.  I used to have rabbits when I bought the house, between the owl that was living in one of my trees, the hawks, and the 15+ cats we had back then in the neighborhood, they were all gone within 2-3yrs.  I have not seen a rabbit on our street since 1998 except for one or two 3-4 blocks away (or ~600yds from here).

Thanks Harry and I checked the Fox den on the far end of the private land, it's active again so I think it's working the fields too. Ed

Good shot Ed.

I sometimes see one here in my yard. With all the feed I've been putting out for the critters this past Winter I've been seeing one more often.

About 6 weeks ago, one morning I saw two out in the lawn. Several days ago I found an abandoned bunny brood nest  in some of the brush.  I've never eaten Rabbit,...yet - I'm hoping there will be more hopping when the bunny season opens this Fall !  :D
