Wouldn't have believed it,
« on: May 06, 2007, 03:35:51 AM »
if I hadn't seen it myself. I was outback punching some paper, when I saw a strange sight, for my back yard, a treerat. I have 3 large pecan trees in the back so it's open season when one comes inside of my fence, so normally they bypass my yard. He was moving along fairly quick, so I put the scope on him and followed, waiting for a pause. He headed up one of the pecan trees, he should know better, and all of the sudden he stopped and did the bushy tail limb hug, with his face just barely visible through a fork in the limb. It was going to be a long shot, but I have some targets set at about the same distance so I knew what the holdover would be. I put the croshairs in the proper location and waited and waited, he was not moving abit. Afte about ten mins I decided to go ahead and take the shot, the way he was sitting it would be a clean kill or a miss, all I could see was his face. I squeezed the trigger and sent the tomahawk on its way, I heard it hit the top of his noggen and he did that one hand death grip for a minute. I started walking out to get my prize when something else caught my eye and I realized why he was being so still. It was a big redtail hawk, the treerat lost his grip and the hawk scooped him up before he could hit the ground. I lost my prize, but the hawk got lunch and that will be one less nut robber. I stepped of the shot at 62, my long target is at 53, so I was surprized that I even hit it. I'm sorry that I don't have any pics, but maybe you enjoyed the story anyway.
