Muzzle Breaks, are they functional or just for looks ?

Hay Guys,

DoMuzzle Breaks perform a function or are they really just for looks ?

The Break on my 890 is a nice handle to help cock my shooter, but I think that's it. And it makes my rifle look nice, in a bad boy way !

But other than, SUCHHHHCHHHH, not that, what do you think they can do ?

Mostly for looks.  Does reduce the risk of a sweaty hand slipping off while cocking.

Rib is right, they are ornamental, but do serve as protection of your blueing from your sweaty hands... Also aid in gripping for cocking as Rib said.. Like I said in an earlier post, the muzzle brakes I am  making are not made to lower report or silence an airgun.. Some of us just like some extra whistles and bells hangin on our airguns..

On the otehr hand bill.. I have one on my ar2078 that dose what genes dont.... Hmmm wonder what that can be

....especially on gas guns to minimize muzzle flip.  On a gas gun a properly vented muzzle brake will keep muzzle flip to a minimum, they also add weight to the end of the barrel for the same purpose.......check it out here:

Many of the higher end match pistols also have muzzle breaks to strip away any air that could cause the pellet to wobble.....doubt they do that "just for looks", those guys are pretty serious about their sport:)
