Central Ca. airgun tuners???
« on: June 03, 2010, 05:26:44 PM »
I have a NP XL and even though it shoots great, I am seriously considering getting  it tuned. My problem is I don't want to go through the hassle,  expense  and lost time of shipping it back East. Does anyone know of an air gun tuner in the Central Valley of California.     Thanks a lot.    Jerry

Only place I could think of is Mac 1 in Los Angeles.  Long drive and you gotta go through the valley and LA to get to him...:)  Maybe you should consider shipping it. Insurance is cheap and so is FedEx.  I ship to the west coast all the time and generally it cost around $15.00 for a gun under 12 lbs.

Food for thought....putting myself in your shoes.  I'm no tuner!, just my 2c.

I asked myself.....if I found a local tuner.
I wonder what their turn-around time would be, what experience they have, what is their level of attention to detail, what kind of parts/lubes do they use, and of course how much does all this cost me.  Pre/post Chrony tests?  Guarantee?  Do I want quality or a quickie?  Can I get the ol' lady to box it up & ship it?   lol

I don't think Tim at Mac1 would do those anyway, although that is up to him. I think he only does the springers he sells, which are a select few Beemans and the like. Now, for gas and pneumatics, he is the Man and that's a different story.

When I lived in Fresno I had him steroid my old Sheridan. I had to drive back and forth from Fresburg to San Diego every couple of weeks on business anyway. I can tell you that if you did not have a business reason, it would be well worth the $15 shipping to anywhere, not to have to make that drive. You are going 99 South to the 5, then the 405, then out into east LA, and then back. Twice. No one from the central valley should have to go through that!

If you leave the stock off the rifle and just ship the metal, you will save on shipping and damage (check with the tuner, first). That is all most guys need. It isn't that bad and I have shipped both USPS and UPS with zero problems. I bring it in boxed and ready to go, and have never discussed the contents with them. It's really pretty easy.

Not a good idea to leave stock off a gun to be tuned. In most cases you need the stock in order to test the gun. Or cock it.
