The Grackle that refused to die (Graphic)
« on: June 06, 2010, 02:53:45 AM »
So ended up not sleeping tonight and the minute I saw that it was light out I hopped up and grabbed the RWS 48.  Tried to get a squirrel but again they eluded me.  So I resorted back to the grackles in the back yard.  Found one digging for grass seed near my back fence so I loaded up a predator and let the 16 grain monster fly.  Well shot number one hit it's target in a big way!  Upon approaching the grackle I found that it was still breathing.  it was a headshot that took the grackles beak right off.  Since it was still breathing I felt bad for the poor bird.  I immediately loaded another pellet and put it in the back of the birdies head, point blank.  Nonetheless, I didn't feel to great about this kill but you guys have to see the pictures of this things busted beak.  Again, it is graphic so if you have a weak stomach please do not look at these photos.

Wow...that`s a devastating shot.  Glad it didn`t run off to have a lingering death.  I`ve also shot a bird...a Starling... on the beak, very near it`s eye.  It died right away...the ft. lb. energy from the pellet most likely broke it`s neck and scrambled it`s brain.
