JMG Wants Something Different...:) So................
« on: May 27, 2007, 06:29:20 AM »
after talking to him on the phone for a while, about his idea of a shroud design, I decided to take on the quest with what materials I had. At first I thought my material wall thickness would not allow the end milling he wanted, but it was not a problem.. So today I set up for the operation....:) Measured and scribed marks and lines on a piece of aluminum tubing with 5/8" X .039 wall thinckness tubing. First checked out degree of end mill radius and got my final cutting depth.. He wanted 5 flutes and all of them offset running from one inch in front of the end of shroud to the rear.. Starting with 1 at 0 degrees, two at 45 degrees and finally 2 at ninty degrees from the 0 degree starting point.. Here are some pictures.. I think he is off shooting his new RWS 34 today so you guys will get the first look at his design..

John, that is an excellent design :D and Gene, the same goes for the craftmanship it took to make it. :) All I can say is WOW!! Gene, I hope you like that design, because I think I saw something similar earlier, hehe. 8)

Hehe yeah I am sighting in the 34 right now but then Roald and I took a break between the rain showers to eat. BBQ country ribs awesome late lunch hehe. I shall return later with some surprising posts.

Ok I am back now a few hours later hehe Gene ya hit the nail on the head with the shroud man looks fantastic. Hehe now the question is can ya do the brake the same diameter as the shroud like we were discussing and flute the brake the opposite of the shroud hmmm so that the top flute is short but it starts an equa-distance like the top flute on the shroud 1" or so from the backside of the brake or it would be umm 2" spacing between shroud flute and brake flute. And then the 45 degree flute would be farther forward and the 90 degree the farthest forward. The lengths would be proportional to the brake length of course. Here is one of my cheesy drawings to further explain.

Not a problem John.. So you want the brake with no tapper and just straight like the shroud? I know you did not want a line where the brake meets the shroud but that would be almost impossible for me to achieve.. But I can get it very close.. It would be exactly the same diameter as the shroud but would be a very small line between the shroud and brake.. And you will have to let me know what model QB 78 you are going to put this on.. I will then get the length measurements and finish it up..

So let me know buddy..

QB78D Gene. And I am not real concerned about the line between shroud and brake but I would like as close to same diameter for both. No flaring just a straight lookin bull barrel type of deal, all meat and some potatoes please lol.I think that the flutes will distract any attention to the small line between the 2.
