Was gonna do more yard work today but before I got going I looked out the window and saw a flock of starlings hanging out at my feeders. Figuring the yard work could wait another day I grabbed my S1k, jumped in my truck and headed for the duck farm. There were flocks of starlings and pidgeons all over the place, flitting from feeder to feeder. I went straight to a small grove of large trees that the starlings like to roost in in between trips to the feeders, and I set up a little blind behind some old farm equipment. Within 2 minutes I had a bunch of starlings land in one of the trees 20 yards away. I picked out a bird that gave me a clear shot, put the cross hairs on him, squeezed the trigger, and immediately heard that wonderful sound of the RWS pellet striking home. The bird fell out of that tree like a sack of nickels. I had a few more shots at that location, got one more bird, but the birds knew I was there so I moved to a different location to set up again. There was a feeder on the other end of the farm that was getting alot of activity so I made my way over there and set up about 30 yards away just inside an old equipment shed. For the next 30 minutes I had steady shooting, but the wind was picking up and I wasn't doing to well. I managed 1 more bird here, but decided to move to the other end of the farm where, due to the lay of the land, the wind would be less of a hinderance. Set up in a clump of trees about 30 yards from the feeders and for the next hour had some good shooting. I missed most of my shots, but managed to bag 3 more yellow beaks. I'm not quite sure why I was missing so much today, guess I just had an off day, but I'd rather have a clean miss than a wounded bird anytime. On my back to the truck saw a medium sized woodchuck gorging himself on duck feed and I tried a slow stalk to get within range. I got almost within range, but he saw me and in a second was back in his hole. I took all but 2 of the yellow beaks with the RWS Super HP's and I continue to be impressed with those pellets. The CPHP's did cleanly kill the 2 birds I hit with them, but they didn't do half the damage the RWS pellets did. I tried several times to get close to the pidgeon flocks but they were much more wary than usual today. I did get to take a couple of 50 yard shots offhand at a couple of pidgeons, but they were all clean misses. I'm going to try to post some pictures I took f todays hunt, but I've never tried posting pics before so I apologize if they don't show up. All in all I had a great time, may head back tomorrow afternoon, late in the day when it's a little cooler.
