gamo equivalences.
« on: July 03, 2006, 12:57:54 PM »

I know there are better pellet guns than Gamo in many ways, but the rugged minimalist look of the shadow really attracts me. I bought a .177, and a few weeks later, a .22. The accuracy is good, and it's fun learning how to baby it into shooting as well as it seems to ba able to do.

I'm having the .177 tuned by Charlie, and expect to have a more accurate and easier handling device. If I can get away with it. I hope to have the .22 done also, but my wife and myself have to talk that one out.

But after this is done, I would like to have the same idea in another rifle. I was wondering, are there other brands with the same tough, plastic stock, in the top-notch catagory? I would like something like the RWS 54, without the beautifully finished wood stock, which should also make it significantly cheaper.

This may sound heretical to some, but it's what I would like to have.

Hmmm.... other BRANDS? Other MODELS is easy - the Gamo CFX. Supposed to be a very nice, very accurate gun for the money - I'm aiming for one of these as my next rifle. But as for other brands of synthetic-stock guns, I don't know that there's too much out there.

I believe Beeman had one of their GS or GH series available in composite, but I don't see it on Compasseco's site anymore. It was a fair bit pricier than the Shadow as I recall, and the low end Beemans have a bit of a mixed reputation.

Daisy's Turkish-made Powerline 1000 is also available with a synthetic stock, but it's - uh - a bit cruder than the Shadow. Cheaper and more powerful than the Shadow, it is generally considered to be a very accurate rifle. But it's not nearly as refined. Tough trigger, poor balance, harder cocking, harsh and cheap-sounding firing cycle - and it recoils a fair bit. Known to be quite a scope killer, and Daisy's parts support is kinda lousy (worse than Gamo's)

That's all that comes to mind at the moment. If I think of anything else, I'll post.

Crossman's Genesis has the same trigger as a gamo and they are nice rifles, and JM makes a tune kit for them.
I installed one in my Genesis and it did a great job smoothing out the rifle, and the GTX trigger makes it a real nice shooter.
Besides the stock feels great and looks neet also..   Bass pro has them for 169 bucks with the 3x9X40 scope

I think what you are looking for is a B-21 or B-30 rifle. these while having wood stocks are chinese made guns copies or the RWS model 48 cost under $150 {usually) and are outstanding shooters once a bit of refinement is done to them. But you may also want to look for a used model 48 in 177 which can be found for around $200 and is already a nice shooter oput of the box complete with lifetime RWs warrenty. Just remember its a scope killer if yous a cheap scope.

I'd love the 54 with that stock. It might make it more affordable, and I love the idea of recoil reduction in my next rifle.

Thanks for the thoughts, though, as the 48 seems to be the best choice with the stock I want yet.

That boar of your gives me the creeps. :p

Gamo Shadow Matic. I just love mine.  Cant believe its not one of the most popular gamos.  Guys... REPEATER SPRINGER!!  So what it only shoots wadcutters, there are so many 177 wadcutters out there. And, Wadcutters are great!

I had a legacy that I put a genesis stock on and after getting my gamo matic, feel that the genesis stock is way flimsy compared to the gamo syn stock.
