Took a big step yesterday!
« on: June 06, 2007, 03:16:16 AM »
Well, not too long ago I sent off to the ATF for a Curio & Relics FFL application and recieved it Monday afternoon.

I filled it out, dropped in my check for the $30 fee and mailed it out to the ATF and the other copy to my chief of law enforcment. Hopefully all goes well!

I hope so too!!!

There's a BUNCH of nice C&R eligable rimfires in a catalogue I have for EXTREMELY low prices! If I were to order ANY of these through a gun shop, then they wouldn't even be worth the effort because of all the Fees involved.

Hey Sam, I have had a C&R license for several years.  Even if you don't ever buy a firearm with it, the dealer prices from Brownells and Midway etc are well worth the 30 bucks.  The worst thing about having the license is that you can end up with more surplus rifles than the country that is selling them.   Still looking for a seller that gives a "discount" on airguns with it.  So far, Midway is the only one I have found and it is only 5-10 bucks per rifle.  Still worth tin of pellets or two.

That's another reason why I applied for it!
Seems like not many dealers have the NRA discount anymore, or if they do it's not very much at all.
It's a possibility that I may end up with LOTS of surplus rifles! LoL, but I think I'll stick to whatever is Cheapest to shoot. ie 7.62x39, .22LR, 9mm etc. That way it'll keep me curbed, cause I don't wanna have to start reloading my own again. Too tedious!

But yeah, even with a few Discounted Purchases the C&R pays for itself.  $30 bucks for a year ain't bad either!

Thanks for that info eighty8.  I missed that supplier.  I just called Midsouth and faxed them my license.  NOW for that big pellet order.

Hay Guys,

Aren't you subject to 24 hours a day B.A.T.F.E. revues with that F.F.L.???

I don't think so Bill, with an 03 license, you can't conduct a business.  It's supposed to be for collectors, not for profit.  They can check your bound book anytime but from everything I've read and the people I've talked to, they were not interested in anything but paperwork.  From what I understand, if they contact you, you can have them come to the address on your license, or you can bring your book to their office.  They can check mine if they want to.  I'm obsessive about my paperwork in all my affairs.

Exactly what Dave said... BUT, they can only come & check up "During normal business hours" . That pretty much means 9-5 . I called BATF up and asked a BUNCH of questions and that was one of em!

But yeah, you're required to keep a bound book with a log of ALL your firearm aquisitions & dispositions. Aldready have mine!

I thought about it 2 years ago when the military surplus was cheap, but not anymore. I don't know what you have but I would definitely recommend the Yugo SKS before they dry up. I believe Interordinance still may have some that are Unissued w/ accessories but lacking logbooks. Just make sure the numbers are matching and not forced. It shoots 7.62 x 39 round same as the AK.
Good luck

Here are a few online sites..... you may know of  these already.
Aim Surplus
Classic Arms
Centerfire Systems
Samco
Sarco
J&G sales
Atlantic Firearms

Thanks Eric! A Yugo SKS was one of the items on my list. Along with a K98 Mauser  :D  and a few others.
