Another Very Talented Member of the GTA has.......
« on: June 10, 2007, 01:26:53 AM »
Made me a set of grips and fore stock for my Crosman 1377....:) I could not be more pleased with these hand made grips.. They are hand carved from Popalar Wood, and the grain came out unbelievably detailed..:) The member who made these for me is our one and only Mike "bullseye".. Very talented man with an excellent eye for wood and design. I sent my Crosman 1377 to Mike about 3 weeks ago. Asked him to make a nice set of grips for the 1377, kinda like was on display in the yellow classifieds. I wanted a similar look but not the same, I told him. Well he started roughing them out and at every step he sent me pics of them and asked me if I wanted any changes. It was a pleasure dealing with Mike through the whole process..:) Mike had sent me some small game pic's several months back that his late father had hand made. Mike has a great deal of talent that I am sure came from his father..:) Both have an eye for art..
Anyway Mike sent me an email on Thursday of last week along with final pictures for my approval.. I was overjoyed at what I saw but the pictures do not do the craftmanship justice. Well I did not expect to get them until Monday or Tuesday of next week but last night after chatting with Ed AKA "Shadow", I strolled out to the mail box and low and behold there was a box for me..:) I could hardly wait to get in the garage and open it up. There in the box was my Crosmann 1377, with the grips attached, and the forestock. Along with the new grips he sent me a couple pieces of wood with three types of stain that he thought would look good and show off the grain in detail..
Well Mike thinks of everything, let me tell you.. hehehe  I have now started the first process of staining the grips after I wiped them down with Accetone and used a tack clothe to get any lint, etc off of them. They are looking beautiful and I can't wait to finish the stain process.. hehe
Here are some pics of the raw Poplar Wood grips that Mike hand made for me.. Will be putting up the final pictures after I am happy with the stain.

Thank you Mike for a beautiful job you have done and I know you will be very busy in the near future with your talents..:)

Glad you liked them Gene and perhaps I can do it again, when I learn what I'm doing, hehe.  These took alot longer than the other 3 sets that I have made, but I rough shaped these with a chisel and a pocket knife, instead of power tools. In about 2 weeks I will be sending you another left grip, wasn't too happy with the way that 1 turned out, sorry about that. Was the fit about right, or do you have to do some tweeking? I had made up some 400 and 800grit sanding drums, but I didn't notice that they were still on the table until it was all boxed up, real easy to make tho.

Mike, I am still so excited about your grips I left allot out of my post..:) Yes they fit me like a Glove..:) My right forefinger sits perfect and the butt of grips fit snug against the heal of my hand as well. You must of had a clone of my right hand to get the shape perfect.. heheh. I find the left grip to be to my liking but you are a perfectionist so what can I say.. hehe
Thanks so much again for the grips and stock Mike..

No clones here, might be a clown tho, hehe. The left grip did turn out ok, but I went alittle deep on the top and back. Also had to shift it alittle for fit and the safety hole is alittle low. :0  The longer finger rest does make for a nice feel. The way I look at things, anything that you can do to make less stuff to have to think about, the better the end result will be, less chance of human error in the mix. 8)  So the better it fits, the better it will work, more so on stocks than grips. And Poplar does have a nice grain, you just have to get in there and look for it,hehe.
Thank you for getting the GTA started and Happy Anniversary.
Not only is this a great place to be, it's the only place to be. 8)

Grips are stained, new barrel installed and custom muzzle brake attached..:) Here are some pictures of a wonderful set of grips and cocking arm on my Crosman 1377. Thanks to Mike Brown,, AKA Bullseye..:) A big thanks for his great workmanship. These grips fit my hand like a glove and the wood is very impressive. I did the staining myself but probably should of let Mike finish them up for me.. The pictures do not do the wood justice.. When you look at these with naked eye, the grain really stands out.

So I just want to thank Mike again for going way beyond the limits in makeing these grips for me. I really love them a bunch..:)

I gotta say that look's FANTASTIC buddy. Mike does some superb work, digging how the grip's and the cocking handle flow as one. The stain is super nice, love the color and check out the DIRTY HARRY break on the end..........NICE Gene. 8) Ed

Turned out looking real nice Gene. I had forgot that you said you were putting on a brake, I hope the groove on the pump handle is enough to clear it when pumping. You are right pics don't do them justice, because I know there are several spots where the grain has a calidoscope effect. Actually the grain pat mates front to back, but it's hard to tell.  Also I'm sorry that they were so rough, but for some reason, I just can't bring myself to handsand, hehe.

Thanks Ed. I've another project, or 2, then I can get back on my B-3 stock. If the paint that I have for it doesn't turn out right, it will be on it's way, for some custom camo and mabe some of that B-3 voodoo that you do,hehe. Good thing your a lefty, hehe, but feel free to make a mirror image if you like the way it feels. 8)
